Xbox just announced that its first Direct of the year will be held on January 18, with a focus on MachineGames’Indiana Jones, Obsidian Entertainment’sAvowed, Oxide’s Ara: History Untold, and Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

It’s being held at 12pm PT (3pm ET/8pm GMT), right before ZeniMax’sThe Elder Scrolls OnlineGlobal Reveal showcase which will take place at 1pm PT (4pm ET/9pm GMT).

This will be our first proper look at Indiana Jones, which up until now, has been shrouded in mystery. It was announced three years agowith a CGI trailer panning across Jones' desk as the iconic theme tune slowly kicked into action, ending on his signature hat and whip.

Xbox also stresses in the blog post announcing the Direct that no news or updates will be given regarding games from Activision Blizzard King. It finally acquired the studio late last year afterUK regulators approved the merger, but we’ll have to wait until later this year to find out what Microsoft has in the works now that Activision is under its belt.

Up until now, we’ve seen nothing concrete about the Indiana Jones game. The CGI trailer showed off his hat and whip but it’s Indiana Jones, of course he has those. We don’t know how it’ll play, what the story is, or anything else of note.

Some have speculated that it’ll be in the vein ofUnchartedorTomb Raider, but that’s just it - we can only speculate. However, after three years of waiting, we’re about to see ten minutes of gameplay and developer insights, including details on its setting and story, during the first Direct of 2024. The blog post does confirm one small detail ahead of time, which is that it’ll be a globe-trotting adventure.

Last year’s Xbox Direct was most notable for shadow-dropping Hi-Fi Rush, which has led many to expect something similar this year.

Avowed will also see its first gameplay deep dive during the Direct, giving us a better glimpse at how thisElder Scrolls-inspired expansion of thePillars of Eternityworld will look in action. This is another exclusive we know little about, but given thatit’s set to launch sometime this year, we’re due a better look.
