Venom made his debut appearance during the ’80s and has grown to become one of the most popular villains in the world ofSpider-Man. Despite his size and nature, he is much more complex than he appears and is often perceived as more of an antihero than a villain — especially in the Tom Hardy live-action movies.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2features a wide array of nefarious villains, but none of them can prepare Peter Parker or Miles Morales for Venom’s brute strength and unpredictability. The creature relies on a human host to achieve its goals, and you might be surprised to find out who Venom chooses as his partner in crime in Spider-Man 2.

The rest of this article includes heavy spoilers for Spider-Man 2. It is highly recommended that you finish the game before reading any further.
What Is Venom?
Unlike the Lizard or Doctor Octopus, Venom is not the product of a poorly executed science experiment. Instead, thecreature comes from space and is classified as an alien symbiote. While Venom is still threatening alone, he becomes even more dangerous after finding a host to latch on to.
After fusing, Venom can infiltrate his host’s thoughts andunlock their darkest desires and motivations.

This can change their personality — like Tobey Macguire’s cringe-worthy transformation in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 — and cause them to act irrationally.
Not only does Venom brainwash his hosts, but he also provides them with powers likeincredible strength and regenerative healing.

The Venom that appears in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isevil incarnate and doesn’t share any of the humor or redeemable qualitiesfound in other iterations of the character.
His ultimate goal is toturn Earth into a symbiote hive and ‘heal’ the world by turning everyone into an alien. He is a force to be reckoned with and makes the Sinister Six from the original Spider-Man game look like a group of after-school bullies.
Who Is Venom?
In most instances, Venom usually chooses Eddie Brock as his host. Since his introduction, Venom has bonded with many personalities, including Scorpion and Flash Thompson, buthe takes on someone entirely new in Spider-Man 2.
Afterinitially bonding with Harry Osbourneto prevent him from suffering from the same disease that took his mother’s life, the symbioteremoves itself to save Peter from a fatal blow by Kraven the Hunter.
After the alien is detached from Spider-Man and sent back to the lab, Harry accidentally breaks the glass containing the villain, and it bonds with Harry again, officially turning him into the behemoth Venom.
Though some of Venom’s powers were on display before this moment, the game gives you an opportunity to play as the villain to truly understand his power.
He can take out groups of people with a single attack, and his body is like a giant sponge thatbarely takes damage from weapons or bullets. It’s fun to be the bad guy for a bit, but being on the other side of the brawl against Venom will take everything our heroes have.
Does Venom Survive At The End Of Spider-Man 2?
During the final third of Spider-Man 2,Peter and Miles are tasked with cleaning up Venom’s takeover of New York City, including the giant hives and pedestrians who have been turned into aliens.
The final mission brings the two Spider-Men and MJ together with a plan to finally defeat Venom and save the world from an invasion. To do this, they recruit Martin Li to help reverse the traces of Venom’s DNA in Peter’s system into an Anti-Venom symbiotecapable of destroying the menace.
The grueling final fight against Venom involves multiple phases that require you to switch between Peter and Miles as they take turns distracting Venom from his precious meteorite.
Even after Venom becomes a fully evolved, winged beast, the team eventually takes him down long enough forPeter to use his Anti-Venom powers to destroy Venom once and for all. Though this could have killed Harry, he is left in a comatose state with his father, Norman Osbourne, emotionally devastated and angry.
Though it appears like Venom is done for,the game has left plenty of room for other symbiotes to appear in future games. The Flame side story follows Wraith on her quest to take down a cult leader, who is eventually revealed to be Cletus Cassidy.
The mysterious villain isfinally revealed to be Cletus Kassidy, and to make things worse, he is last seen escaping with a symbiote that’s likely to be Carnage — astronger and somehow more evil version of Venom.
