There are plenty of endings you can get in Cyberpunk 2077, and the new DLC Phantom Liberty even adds a new one. They all have their own take on how V ends his journey through Night City, although players do wonder which ending is considered to be canon.
This is mostly due to games set in TTRPG universes eventually having a canon ending, particularly once the sequel is out (be it another video game or a different adaptation). While the sequel of Cyberpunk 2077 is being made, it’s still a few years away. Yet even without direct confirmation, players still want to know what ending is considered canon.

Is There An Official Canon Ending?
The reality is that none of the endings are officially considered canon, at least for now. So there’s no definitive answer to V’s journey by design, since you’re the one holding the reins. In fact, a sequel to the game will likely bring no definitive answer, or let you decide what ending was canon like in The Witcher 3, especially if V is no longer the main character
In terms of theme, the Streetkid origin is the one most fitting for V’s story, so it’s the closest choice to being a canon beginning.
Still, if you’re hungry for an answer, the Cyberpunk 2077 community is happy to theorize! Whether they’re discussing iton Redditorin CDProjektRed’s forums, opinions are split.
Which Ending Offers The Most Closure?
Looking at the themes in the early parts of the game, you can try to see what path fits best for your character’s origin story. For us, we kept an eye on V’s sentiments from the very beginning of the game. V starts their journey with Jackie, both wanting to be remembered as legends of Night City. Jackie meets his demise early on, but he does so living the life he wanted.
Not all endings give V that satisfying legend status they craved. Accepting the help from Arasaka goes against these themes, as does the new ending introduced in the DLC. Both have the highest chance of curing V (with the DLC actually succeeding in resolving this issue), but the resulting “end character” is hardly the one taking all those jobs during the main game.
There are other endings that work, but lack a closure that best befits the beginning moments of the game:
If we had to choose one ending, it would be theStar ending, where you leave the city with the Aldecados. It shows the positive influence V had chasing their dreams, and also what they’ve learned from it: While they will be remembered as a legend, Night City is a harmful place not worth the effort. They go out searching for a possible cure, and even if they won’t find it, they’ll go out on their own terms.
