Following the depictions and tales from the books, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth had a follow-up release after the main set, bringing with it a whole new scroll-inspired showcase frame and a separate release of products with all new cards in them. If you’re wondering what the difference between the releases are and what you can find in each, then your journey has come to an end. All you have to do is speak “Cards” in Elvish and enter.

Collector Booster
The Special Edition of Tales of Middle-earth is a unique set, taking all the cards from the original release and giving them some special treatments. Many cards received new artwork variants, a new scroll showcase frame, silver foil cards, surge foil cards, and even brand new cards not in the original set.
Much of the appeal of this set for collectors are the inclusion of some very cool variants in the set. There’s the Hildebrandt cards, a selection of borderless cards that feature artwork from the 1970s from the classic and beloved artists Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. Another incredibly cool variant in these packs are the borderless poster cards. These cards are designed to resemble concert posters, giving the cards a much more hardcore feel than any traditional Magic card.
Another upside to these packs is the inclusion of a new run of serialized cards. This new print run doesn’t include The One Ring, well it does, but not the2.6 million dollar one that Post Malone has. Serialized cards from this run can include any of the borderless poster cards as well as any from the special Realms & Relics collection. The Dwarvish, Elven, and Man serialized Sol Rings do not make a return in the Special Edition either.
The Special Edition has two foil treatments in the set, a silver foil version which has a distinct metallic sheen, and then surge foils, a returning foil type that comes with waves across the foiling.
Each Collector Booster box comes with 12 Special Editon Collector Boosters, with 15 cards inside for a total of 180 cards. Each pack includes:
There’s a pretty low chance of opening a new serialized card, less that 1% of boosters contain them but if you’re hunting for one, a collector booster box is the way to go.
Jumpstart Volume 2
Jumpstart is a unique take on booster packs. Instead of your Draft and Set Boosters, or even Collector boosters. Instead of a regular pack, Jumpstart packs each contain half a deck, complete with lands, and are designed to be played right out of the pack. You play by taking two packs, shuffling them together, and playing whatever cards are in your packs.
A Jumpstart pack includes 20 cards based around a single theme, with each theme having two versions. These packs are comprised mostly of cards from the main set, though they also come with a mechanically unique and original rare card designed specifically for Jumpstart.

If you may’t decide which scene you want, you can always go in for all four. All four Scene boxes come with powerful cards to either display or play with, making them a great choice for a gift for a friend or even yourself.
Scene Boxes are a new product that made its debut in the original Tales of Middle-earth set and Magic released four more to release with the Special Edition release. These boxes are designed around a specific scene or event that occurred in the Lord of the Rings books, even some that might not have been depicted in the books or films! The cards found in these boxes can also be found in Collector Booster packs, but there’s no guarantee you’re going to get the cards you want and you can’t be sure you open a foil version of those cards either. There are a few highlights from these Scene boxes like Galadriel’s Dismissal and Legolas’s Quick Reflexes and great pieces of evasion for your creatures.
