InAvatar, there are many characters with unique backgrounds. The struggles between the humans and the Na’vi rage on as they try to find balance between the thriving bounds of nature and the needs of the human invaders left behind. The main conflict involves the planent’s well-being, and by extension, Eywa.

Eywa is more than a deity to the Na’vi, and miracles can be performed through her. Introduced in Avatar: The Way Of Water, Kiri is a character of unique origin and purpose. And while that purpose remains unclear as of now, there are a few things you’ll need to know about her to better understand her role in the Avatar franchise at large.

Who Are Kiri’s Parents?

Due to her unusual origins, she isunlike anyone the other Na’vi have seen before. Kiri is directly descended from Grace Augustine’s avatar, who was discovered to be pregnant shortly after her death. While there isno father in the picture–if there is one–Jake Sully and Neytiri adopted her as their own.

Despite both Jake and Neytiri treating Kiri like their daughter, Kiri seems to have a stronger connection to Jake.

Her physicalappearance resembles Grace’s avatar, unsurprisingly. She has short dark hair alongside her braid, andfive fingers instead of four, like avatars do.

She can be seen watching old video logs from Grace, viewing her as her mother, even in human form. The two have a strong connection, even thoughKiri never had the opportunity to meet Gracein person.

Kiri’s relationships with her siblings are good, though she hasa particular fondness for Spider, who she can relate to quite well. Despite her adoptive parent’s best efforts, Kiri doesn’t feel normal or like the others.

What Makes Kiri Special?

Kiri’s unique and surprising creation is what makes her special from the start, though it’sher interactions with Eywaand the world around her that truly set her apart.

She often wanders off and gets lost, and can be foundlost in thought or meditating. She claims tofeel the hearbeat of Eywa, though not everyone believes her.

She’s always hada strong connection to Eywa, one that’s evenstronger than that of a tsahik(the spiritual leader of a clan). However, upon connecting to the Spirit Tree and seeing a vision of her mother, Kiri suffers an intense seizure and enters a comma. When she awakens, she’s warned tonever connect to the Spirit Treeagain.

While she cannot connect to the Spirit Tree again for her own safety, Kiri is able tocall on the power of Eywato help her friends and family in their time of need. Thewildlife on Pandora is drawn to her, and she is in awe of them in turn.
