The absence of a tutorial, or explanation for anything at all, has spawned seas of speculation about the game mechanics, leaving many Company interns in the dark about what’s true and what’s not. Not to worry, however, we’re here to shed light on the mysterious sanity mechanic, a vital aspect of the game that shapes the hunting habits of Lethal Company’s creepiest monster: the Ghost Girl.

What Is Sanity
Sanity is, essentially,a hidden number valuewithin the game that fluctuates depending on your actions.
To date, the only things that Sanity influences are theambient soundswhile you’re in a facility building, andwhether the Ghost Girl chooses you as her target.
Here is a list of factors that influence sanity, as well as the rate with which your Sanity will increase or decrease when performing these actions.
Increasesat a rate of 0.8
Being outside after sunset
Increasesat a rate of 0.5
Being outside before sunset
Increasesat a rate of 0.3
Being inside the ship
Increasesat a rate of 0.2
Being near other players
Decreasesat a rate of 3.0
Hearing other players on the walkie-talkie
These rates are adjusted as follows in single-player games (i.e. if you are the only player in your game lobby).
That said,sanity matters very littlein single-player mode. If you are the only player in your lobby, theGhost Girl will always target youif she spawns, as she will have no one else to choose.
Contrary to popular player belief, taking a showerdoes not cause the Ghost Girl to change targets, nor does it “reset” your sanity level.
What Is The Ghost Girl
The Ghost Girl is one of the monsters that haunt the moons of Lethal Company—choosingone single player to “haunt”, and appearingonly visible to them.
Thoughinitially harmlesswhen she first spawns—mostly staring at and “hiding” from a player—the Ghost Girl can quickly become one of themost dangerous creatures of the game, commonly known as one of the few “run-ender” hazards, meaning evacuation from the moon is recommended when shegoes into her second phase.
This occurs when the Ghost Girlenters her “hunting” mode, in which she chases after her targeted player andkills them instantlyupon contact.
You can tell that she’s begun her hunt when sheslowly skips after you, rather than just standing and staring.
That said, there are ways of preventing her from entering her hunting mode—namely byavoiding the line of sight with herby not turning your camera around when you hear her laugh, speak or breathe nearby.

How Does The Ghost Girl Choose Her Target

Note that though keeping your sanity up is a good way to make sure that the Ghost Girldoes not targetyou, she will inevitably go for the player on your team withthe lowest sanity. If this targeted player dies, she will then proceed tohaunt the next player with the next-lowest sanity, and so on, until your entire team is dead.
As such,clear communicationandunderstanding of her mechanicsare still key to surviving your run if you have the misfortune of running into a Ghost Girl on your moon.
