Contrary to the name, vaulting does not refer to placing items behind a literal vault that you can access on the island. The vault is a mechanic that directly affects which items are currently available in the Battle Royale and other Limited Time Modes. Here’s everything you need to know about vaulting items.

What Does It Mean When An Item Is Vaulted?
When an item gets vaulted, it ismade completely unavailable by any means.Items can be vaulted for a variety of reasons, like if they weretied to a specific collaboration eventorif the item was too powerfuland needed adjustments. Certain vehicles can even be vaultedif they have a significant impact on gameplay.

Each vaulted itemmay return at any time, usually with slight changesto prevent the item from being too overpowered. Additionally, items tied to collaborations will alsogo straight into the vault once the collaboration ends.
What Does It Mean When An Item Is Unvaulted?
Items aretypically brought out of the vault at the beginning of each season, but additional items can be unvaulted within each season as time passes. Certain eventswill unvault a bunch of items that relate to the event’s theme. For example, the Fortnite Birthday event usually unvaults the Balloon and Present items.
