Psykers are the warp-wielding casters ofWarhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, capable of reaching into the endless Warp to use their psychic abilities. Psykers come in various different proficiencies, from pyromancers who can control fire to diviners who can see glimpses of the future.
Of course, using the power of the warp has its consequences. Relying too heavily on a Psyker’s abilities will increase Veil Degradation, which can lead to psychic phenomena and even Perils of the Warp, if you aren’t careful. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about these effects.

What Is Veil Degradation?
Veil Degradation occurs as a Psyker uses psychic abilities. It begins at zero, and can increase or decrease depending on what actions you take.
Veil Degradation will change whenanyPsyker uses abilities, even enemy ones!
WhileVeil Degradation is 14 or less, the following effects are in place.
There isalways a slight chance for psychic phenomena to occurwhen using psychic abilities, withSanctioned Psykerstriggering these effectsless frequently.

WhenVeil Degradation reaches 15, the following effects are in place.
Thehighest Veil Degradation can reach is 20, at which point the chance to trigger psychic phenomena and Perils of the Warp is greatest.
What Are Psychic Phenomena And Perils Of The Warp?
Psychic phenomena have a chance to occurany time a Psyker uses a psychic ability. When these occur, they willreduce the momentum of your party, making it more difficult to triggerHeroic Actions, while inching you closer toDesperate Measures.
Psychic phenomena can come in many different forms, but their overall effect is always the same. They can be avoided by not using psychic abilities when Veil Degradation is high, or through certain Talents likeStabilising Factor.
Perils of the Warp
Perils of the Warp have a chance to occur whenmajor psychic powersare used at aVeil Degradation level of 15 or higher. Unlike psychic phenomena, which are mildly inconvenient but still manageable,Perils of the Warp candrastically alter the outcome of the battle.
There are several different effects that can occur when a Peril of the Warp is triggered, ranging from pushing away characters, damaging them, or evensummoning daemonsto the field. You’ll need to be extra careful when casting major psychic powers, especially when Void Degradation is high.
