Building a large, thriving city is the name of the game inSteamworld Build, and the game has a system to help you achieve and track it: Milestones. The more citizens of your city you recruit and keep happy, the more Milestones you’ll achieve, and you’ll need to hit them all if you escape the planet.

Achieving certain Milestones even unlocks portions of the map and some pieces of the story. Whether you want a look at what’s to come or help yourself with city planning, we’ve got the information you need. We’ll go over every Milestone in the game, and tell you what changes come with them.

A new milestone is achieved for recruiting new Engineers for the city and it unlocks new buildings and a new path in Steamworld Build.

What Are Milestones?

As you progress in Steamworld Build instory mode or in sandbox mode, the game gives youspecial tasks to completecalledMilestones.

Milestones will generally ask you to obtain either aspecific amountof a certainSteambot type in your cityor, in the end-game, to acquire certainstory-related items or buildings.

You’ll berequired to hit each of themif you want tounlock new areas of the map, newstory-related structures, and to complete the game. In total, you’ll have20 Milestonesto achieve, and they’re separated intofour sections: one for each Steambot type.

Worker-Based Milestones

The first Milestones you’ll need to fulfill all deal with themost basic Steambot unitin the game, the resilientWorker.

Each one willintroduce new Worker-related buildings, increase their needs, and leads totwo of the first story beats.

Engineer-Based Milestones

The next set of milestones deals with thesecond tier of Steambotavailable, the industriousEngineer. Like before, these continue the trend of introducingnew buildings for the Engineersandadding to their list of needs.

You’ll also begin toget further into the storyonce you unlock the mines, and gain access toseveral new Steambot typesthat areexclusive to and work in the mines.

Milestone 5

1 Engineer in the City

The Abandoned Mineshaft becomes available, and thearea expands depending on which mapyou’re playing on.

With at least18 Engineersin the city, theAbandoned Mineshaft can be repaired.

120 Engineers in the City

Mechanic Steambots become availableto recruit in the mines.

TheWorkshop QuartersandScrap Extractorbecome available to recruit and build in the mines.

TheSheet Metal Factory,Pickaxe Maker, andSpare Parts Makerbecome available to build forEngineer Steambots.

200 Engineers in the City

TheSurveillance Facility,Radar System, andBridgesbecome available to build in the mines.

TheWater Purifier,Wash Service,Burger Meister, and theCattle Farmbecome available to build forEngineer Steambots.

240 Engineers in the City

Aristobots become availableto recruit byupgrading Engineer Steambots.

Aristobot-Based Milestones

After the Engineers comes thethird tier of Steambots, the high-classAristobot. Their milestones alsointroduce all their associated buildings, and coincide with the introduction of thesecond mineshaft floor, Marshy Ruins.

Anothernew Steambot typeis introduced alongside anew farm,extractors, and anew type of workshopand its weaponryin the mines.

Milestone 10

1 Aristobot

TheAbandoned Mineshaft in the Dusty Cavernsbecomes available to repair, withat least 10 Aristobotsin the city.

TheGuard SteambotandOil Extractorto recruit and build in the mines.

TheArmory becomes availableto buildin the mines, alongside theThumper.

TheSheriff’s Office,Oil Refinery,Diesel Plant,Glass Wool Spinner, andHatmakerbecome available to build forAristobot Steambots.

Milestone 12

190 Aristobots

TheSteam Furnace,Carburizing Plant, and theFine Dining Restaurantbecome available to build forAristobot Steambots.

Scientist Steambotsbecome available to recruit byupgrading Aristobot Steambots.

Scientist-Based Milestones

Thefourth and final tier of Steambotyou’ll be able to recruit is theScientist, and these brainy bots not only cost the most to recruit, but come with somebig tax benefitsin return.

These milestones willunlock the final buildingsavailable in the game, and you’ll also get access to thefinal types of machineryfor your quartersin the mines.

TheUniversityandRetrofit Shopbecome available to build forScientist Steambots.

Maglev Roadsbecome available to build in the city.

TheAbandoned Mineshaft in Marshy Ruinsbecomes available forrepair with at least 10 Scientistsin the city.

Milestone 17

100 Scientists

TheGiant Stuff Collider,Oil Paint Factory, andArt Studiobecome available to build forScientist Steambotsat 120 Scientists. TheVectron Scrap Extractorbecomes available at120 Scientists in the city.

Obtain allsix Rocket Parts.

The Final Milestone

While itdoesn’t technically countas one, thefinal milestoneof the game is tofuel the Rocket with 100 Fuelproduced in theRocket Fuel Processing Plant.

Processing the Rocket Fuel takes time like other products produced in the city, but it can be sped up with various equippable items such asProduction ChanceorProduction Speed.

Once you produce all the fuel, which takes some time, you’re then able tolaunch the Rocketandcomplete the gameon the map of your choice.
