Updated on 17-06-2025 at 14:30 GMT:Konami toldIGNthat Best Buy “had the incorrect information” regarding a Pyramid Head origin story in the Silent Hill 2 remake. The claim has now been removed from the listing. Original story follows.

A store listing forSilent Hill 2 Remakeimplies that the game will give us an origin story for Pyramid Head - a prospect that terrifies fans. In fact, many of them are fearfulandconfused, not sure how a backstory forPyramid Headcould even work, given that he’s, you know… a manifestation of James Sunderland’s feelings, not a real dude who just turned out like that.

Still, the wording seems pretty unambiguous. As per theBest Buy website, which has made Silent Hill 2 Remake available to pre-order, “Fan favourite character, Pyramid Head, makes a return along with a special origin story for fans to play through.” So, not only are we getting a backstory for the popular character, but we’ll also be able to play as him. Yay?

Well, almost definitely not yay, at least for many fans online. The news is hardly inspiring much confidence in the game, as many see this as a huge misstep.

Better yet, some fans are just openly making fun of the whole idea, shitposting about how it could possibly go down. Because, honestly, it’s kind of hard to imagine how it could be pulled off and still stick with the original idea behind Pyramid Head.

There is the off chance that this is just incredibly clumsy wording, andmaybethe “special origin story” does not make Pyramid Head playable. But this seems like quite a reach, with the description heavily implying that it is all about Pyramid Head.

One can only imagine how Pyramid Head’s creator, Masahiro Ito, feels about the whole situation. Famously, he commented on the character’s popularity last year, saying, “I wish I hadn’t designed fxxkin Pyramid Head.” With that in mind, it’s unlikely that he’ll be a fan of this development.

The Silent Hill series really can’t afford any more disasters too, what with the whole Silent Hill: Ascension thing going on right now. The game (if you can call it that) works by having players vote on what happens, althoughyour vote means more if you pay.It also had a live chatwhere you can say whatever you want, so I’ll leave your imagination to figure out where that went. Spoiler: it also involves Pyramid Head.
