Until Dawnis back, with a re-release coming toPlayStation 5andPC. The first trailer was just revealed at PlayStation’sState of Play, giving us our first look at the re-release.
As well as giving us a look at the improved visuals, the trailer reveals that Until Dawn will launch sometime in 2024. We don’t have a release date any more specific than that, but we can expect to hear more details at future showcases.
While not yet marketed as a remake or remaster, the trailer says that Until Dawn as been “rebuilt and enhanced” for PS5 and PC, so it’s more than just a port. We’ll have to wait and see how it’s distributed, and if there will be a discount for anyone upgrading from a PS4 copy of the game.
Until Dawn originally launched onPS4back in 2015. It was never ported to another platform, so not only will this new release make the most of the PS5 hardware, but it also marks the first time that the game has been made available on PC.
The horror game proved to be incredibly popular for PlayStation. Receiving generally positive reviews at the time, it’s managed to retain a passionate following despite never getting another instalment. It’s well remembered for its decision-based gameplay and star-studded cast - both of which will remain intact for this re-release.
This is far from the only Until Dawn news we’ve had this month. A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed thatUntil Dawn is getting a film adaptation, directed by Shazam! director David F. Sandberg. It’s not the first PlayStation game to get a live-action adaptation, as it follows on from theUnchartedfilm andThe Last of UsTV show.Ghost of Tsushimais also getting a movie, but production appears to be troubled.
We have no idea if anyone from the game’s cast will reprise their role for the film, or when filming will even begin. It very much appears to be in the early stages now, and given how long other PlayStation productions have taken to get off the ground, we might be in for a long wait indeed. In fact, the production of HBO’s The Last of Us show took so long thatseveral actors aged out of the role of Ellie. Hopefully, it won’t take as long for Until Dawn to start shooting. At least we now know that we have this re-release to keep us busy in the meantime.
