Summary
Sunkenland is all about survival. Although the first few days might make the game seem quite peaceful, you will soon be met with increasingly difficult NPC raids on your base. You must have good weapons and some very solid defenses in place to survive these raids and keep your home safe.
This list will provide some useful tips, hints, and strategies to allow you to defend your Sunkenland base. It’s vital to note that not even the best base will keep you 100% safe, and you will always have to fight the raiders yourself, but a well-constructed base will provide you with the solid foundations you need to beat and survive these raids.

8Use The Right Location
Have A Solid Plan Before Starting Building
The most basic yet most important point when it comes to building your base is having it in the right location. The Starter Island is a decent spot to get you started, but you can find better places to construct a more solid base. Building a water base is not usually recommended as your enemies can break the foundations, causing your whole base to crumble and fall.
The best place to build (base building being a central issue in so many great titles) is usually as high up as possible. Building on the rock outcrops of islands is an excellent idea, as it will force the raiders to climb up to you while you can shoot them down easily. The terrain is everything, so be sure to take advantage of it.

7Layer Your Base
Provide Yourself Safe Places To Fall Back To And To Store Important Items In
Having multiple layers of protection is the key to keeping your base protected.Keep your most valuable assets in the middle or the top of the base, then add as much protection as you can around them. Multiple layers of barricades, walls, and other defensive resources will keep your base safe for a while and buy you enough time to fight the raiders.
A multi-layered base will also let you fall back if you are struggling in a fight, so you can heal yourself up and go again. Raiders at a higher level will come with plenty of weapons, such as shotguns which will be able to knock down walls in a few shots. Having multiple layers in your base is essential against them.

6Funnel Enemies Into One Area
A Risky But Very Powerful Tactic
One of the main problems players face in Sunkenland is having to defend their base while they are being attacked from multiple angles. To prevent this,a good tactic is to leave a vulnerable spot in your base that the raiders will try to target. You can do this by placing an array of obstacles in all other parts of your base except one.
It sounds perilous, and it certainly can be, but there’s a good reason to do it. As the raiders try and attack this chokepoint, you can pick them off using a crossbow or a sniper (some of the most powerful weapons in gaming history have been long-ranged) from a distance. This won’t be easy to pull off, but it will give you a much better chance of survival than letting these raiders swarm you.

5Choose The Best Weapons
Stock Up Before A Raid
While you’re able to fight off the first few raids using just a spear, having good weapons is necessary against high-level raiders. Having pistols, rifles, crossbows and anything else you can afford will help you fend off raids. Having crude and frag grenades will also be helpful, although it can be risky if you don’t use them well.
The SMGs in Sunkenland are rather weak and should only be used as last-ditch backup outside the early game. Try to stick to heavier weapons as much as possible.

Melee fighting against multiple raiders is almost impossible, so make sure to keep an extra stack of ammo that you can fall back on. If you do find yourself having to get up close to these raiders, the Pump Shotgun should be your weapon of choice as it can two-shot anyone at close range (a job shotguns have historically done very well).
4Have Solid Foundations
Don’t Skimp On The Base Defenses
Having solid foundations is important for any building, and it’s even more of a priority when you are about to be attacked by hundreds of marauding raiders. ensure there are no weaknesses in your base, such as gaps where the raiders can sneak through, as there is nothing worse than thinking you are safe but then finding out that the foe is already inside your base.
Using the right defensive materials is crucial too, as the raiders can easily break through normal wooden walls. Make sure to have as many barricades, lengths of barbed wire, and tires deployed as you possibly can, in addition to metal defensive walls, to deter as many enemies as possible.

3Make Many Elevated Shooting Spots
Shoot Them From Above
While building a base, ensure tohave as many elevated shooting spots as possible. These will allow you to pick off the NPC raiders while they attempt to break in. By implementing many options for such perches, you’ll be able to move from cover to cover while you keep finding those perfect shots on the raiders.
Of course, this also won’t be as simple as it sounds, as high-level raiders will come with guns of their own and will shoot back at you. If you move with agility and time your moments right, though, you can continue to deftly use your cover to pick away at their numbers in relative safety.

2Have A Back-Up Plan
Be Sure to Keep Important Resources Elsewhere Too
While you may definitely defeat all the raiders that attack you in this game, there is still a high chance that you find yourself overwhelmed and unable to fight back (should you run out of ammo and back yourself into a corner for instance). In cases like these, it is essential to have a few storage units away from your base where you can find some basic materials and stock up again.
The raiders will completely plunder your base and leave it with barely any items remaining, sohaving a few weapons, materials, and some food in your backup chests will help you get back on your feet more quickly.

1Don’t Upgrade The Workbench Too Soon
Not Until You’re Ready For A Challenge
Upgrading the Workbench or the Research Table is an essential part of the progression in Sunkenland. It allows you to upgrade and get better weapons and materials that will significantly help out in your fight for survival. The only bad thing about doing so is that when you upgrade the tier of your Workbench, it will also increase the difficulty of the raids you’ll face from that point on.
This difficulty will also increase as you progress in the game in other ways. For example, when you gain access to guns, so do the raiders. This means that you should only upgrade the Workbench if you feel your defenses are good enough to handle high-level raids.
