What’s the point of fighting forces of evil with the weirdest party you can find on the Sword Coast if you don’t get to befriend them properly?Baldur’s Gate 3has a fantastic cast of characters, and most of the best characters available are recruitable party members. And, since you can easily change anyone’s class and build them as you wish, nothing stops you from keeping only the ones you like in your party.

Still, how do you get them to like you as well? Some are easy; some are complicated - and your alignment will influence your friendships a lot. Thus, let’s address your potential companions and how to befriend them.

8Wyll Ravengard

A Good Man Who Hates Evil - And Devils

If you wantWyllto like you, just be a good person. Wyll is the essence of a goody-two-shoes hero and would likely be this game’s protagonist if you weren’t around. But simply being nice works here.

His most evil characteristic is not being super forgiving toward bad people, but that rarely comes up. He also tends to speak little of himself and care for others, so if you take the time to listen to him, he’ll approve most of your choices simply by talking to him. Engage with all his conversation topics, and you’re good to go.

A Good Woman Who Longs For Friends

Karlachis relatively similar to Wyll, meaning that being good will be more than enough to get her affection. She’s more prone to violence, but only to bad people, so you don’t need to be evil if you don’t want to.

Help everyone you’re able to, and help her with her engine every step of the way. If you’re interested in her romantically, she’s also pretty open to flirting with you right from the start, so you can just shoot your shot.

If you want to keep Karlach all the way, keep Dammon and Wyll alive, and make sure to complete Wyll’s story arc.

6Gale

He’s Good And A Geek

Just like the previous examples, being nice will work fine withGale.Hearing what he has to say and helping him with magic items will also be plenty to get you on his good side fast.

He will disapprove if you neglect sources of knowledge like magic books and approve of using these items, but that doesn’t often happen to be a huge bonus or detriment. He’s also a cat person; you’re able to get his affection through this, too. Or just be nice to cats for the sake of being nice to cats, as you should.

Be Nice To Animals Around Them

Let’s address the remainder of the goody-two-shoes all at once to avoid repetition. Like the previous examples, being good overall is more than enough to get these characters to like you, and being evil will probably prevent you from even recruiting them in the first place - the same goes for Wyll and Karlach.

They’re all fond of animals, especiallyMinscandHalsin,so you’ll have a few good opportunities there to get their approval. As forJaheira, don’t worry about making jokes or even mocking her; she’s a big fan of humor, and you’ll get some funny interactions by making fun of her.

Shadowheart covered in flecks of blood in Baldur’s Gate 3

4Shadowheart

She Acts Tough, But She’s A Sweetheart

you may be either good or evil when befriendingGod’s favorite princess, though she still hinges more toward good. She’ll be okay or approve helping others unless it proves to be a lot of work or a waste of time, and being pragmatic helps.

As a Cleric of Shar, she’s going to approve a lot of bad things, too, at least at first. Being accepting of her doctrine and following it on some occasions you want to be violent anyway helps.

Baldur’s Gate 3 - Lae’zel confronting Vlaakith about her lies in camp

3Lae’zel

Be Violent, But True To Yourself And Allies

Falling harder on the neutral to almost evil, we haveLae’zel. She’s a prime example of her people, being straight to the point and doing what needs to be done. She won’t approve of wasting time with things such as helping others, but you’re able to quickly get her approval back up by simply defeating your enemies - as long as you don’t show them compassion.

She’s violent, and solving your problems by the quickest route - which is usually killing whoever is in the way - is enough for her. Her Prince will be important to her as her story progresses, so being by her side when things involve him is an easy way to get her approval.

Astarion, an elf with red eyes in Baldur’s Gate 3

2Astarion

Many Emotional Walls To Pass Here

Astarionalso falls into the neutral area, and you can turn him good or evil as the story goes. He’ll be hard to crack at first, so being patient and nice with him as he struggles to open up to you will help a lot. He’s insecure, so mocking him will get you his disapproval immediately.

Astarion is okay with helping others, but only if that won’t be a big waste of time, similar to Lae’zel. He’s okay with being violent, more than Lae’zel even, as he enjoys toying with enemies, and being intimidating and picking fights left and right will usually get his approval - unless you’re threatening a clearly dangerous opponent, then you’ll get a disapproval. He’s also a cat person.

Minthara standing outside the Druid Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3

1Minthara

Evil, But Loyal

Take everything we said about the good characters in this game and do the opposite.Mintharais evil, and you’re able to’t fix her. She’ll stay with you if you’re good, and you can befriend her, but she’ll approve of violence, malice, manipulation, and all the bad stuff you can do to your enemies.

Still, she’s loyal, values helping the people she cares about, and will approve of anything that makes your friends more powerful, such as endorsing Astarion’s and Shadowheart’s evil sides.

If you want to romance her, being evil is a necessity, and that means raiding a few Tieflings along the way.
