Taking place in a reality-TV-obsessed future,The Finalsbrings together some of the best in the arena and extraction shooter mechanics for a one-of-a-kind experience. The first-person shooter allows you unique versatility, movement, and opportunities in how you get to the objective.

While it might appear like any other FPS title, The Finals is a high-energy competition on a much smaller scale than what some more recent titles might have you used to. While the challenges are unique, you may make a lasting impact on the arena as long as you’re prepared with the right knowledge.

Understanding The Contestant Classes

When you first start the game, you’ll need tocreate a contestant that is either light, medium, or heavyin body type. Each of these roles offer unique abilities and stats that you should consider when playing, like theheavy class charging through wallsand thelight class operating as stealth.

Fast

Low

There’s no set team structure, but diversifying the character types on your teamcan help coverwhere the others might be lacking. For example, heavy teammates will have more healthbutmove a little slowerthan medium or light teammates.

There are a lot of movement opportunities around The Finals' maps, butsmall openings aren’t possiblefor heavy characters.

However, they canmake their own openingswith demolition gear or byusing the Charge ‘N’ Slam ability.

Interactive Environment

Whether it be interacting with a bridge or knocking some goo out of the sky, The Finals offers players a lot of chances to use, or demolish, the environment to assist in their strategies. There are a range ofitems you may interact with, even if the game keeps them more subtle. Some examples include:

There area lot of optionson how to play each map in The Finals, and it will beup to players to learn the tricksand devise their own strategies. Until then, it’s wise touse every tool at your disposalto get the better of the other contestants.

Droppingseveral canisters of explosive gasora wall of gooon your opponents is a great way to surprise them before you go in for a big push.Strong area of effect attackslikepoison or fireare great at making opponents scatter.

Destroy The World

One of the most appealing parts of The Finals is that it manages tocreate destructible environmentsthat don’t seem that way until they’re lying in rubble at your feet. This destruction can be as easy asbreaking a window or ventand as disastrous asleveling a building.

While the heavy class has the focus, any class can tear down walls and ceilingswith the right equipment.

If your enemies have all exits guarded, consider surprising them from aboveortaking the ground out from underneaththe objective. It’s always a surprisewhen the defensive environment they’ve created crumbles.

That being said, the heavy class will be the easy favorite for those who like to create destruction. Whether it berunning through wallslike the Kool-Aid man orusing the RPG to create large holes, theheavy character build has the best equipment for demolition.

Understand The Point System

In The Finals, there are two game modes:Quick CashandBank It. If you’re going to play either one, then you need tounderstand how the scoring system worksbefore you celebrate too early and cost the match. Thankfully, bothgame modes rely on extraction rulesthat most players will be familiar with.

InQuick Cash, you and your team will work to secure a small box, calleda Vault, until it cracks open and reveals $10,000. Once it does, you’ll take it to one of multiple Cashout locations, where you’ll defend it until the money is deposited. If stolen, thetimer does not reset.

Out of the three teams of three players each, thefirst one to reach $20,000, ortwo successful Cashouts, winsthe match and takes home the cash.

Bank Itworks similarly to Quick Cash, exceptindividual players can make depositsof coins at the Cashout location after receiving them from vaults.Defeated players will drop coins, leaving them to whoever was able to get the upper hand.

This mode also has an additional team of three, with whichevergroup able to earn $40,000will be crowned as the victors. Bank It is more chaotic than Quick Cash, butit allows for more personal responsibility.

Player points are divided as well, withseparate sectionsshowing progress forCombat,Support, andObjectivein each match. This allows you to see whatareas you’re doing well inandothers where you can improve.

The Tournament game modes are longer versions of Quick Cash with limited respawns, with playerseventually unlocking the Ranked Tournamentmode. There are multiple rounds and limit the amount of times that players can respawn, soset aside the time before playing.

The Rules Of Respawning

In the casual game modes, you haveno limitationon how many times you can respawn in a match, butthere is a timerbased on when you or your team were eliminated. While the timer starts when you’re eliminated, it will be reset if your whole team is wiped.

If your team has any respawn credits, or there’s no limit,it will be shown at the bottom of the screenafter you’re eliminated.

If you’re the last member of your team alive,it may be worth waiting to regroupor stay near the enemy while you wait for your teammates to back you up. Rushing into battlerisks you dyingandlosing even more timefor the objective.

TheTournament game modes are for more serious players, allowing for longer matches withlimited respawn credits. Every time a member of your team dies, they’ll need touse one of the creditsto respawn until they run out.

Spend Wisely

When you start winning, you may feel the need to spend all your money on a new weapon or gadget. Feel free, but be warned that it may take some grinding to get that money back, andyou may be put up against tougher opponents. At the same time, be aware thatyour winnings have a limit.

A good first upgrade for any of the builds arethe Specializations, whichoffer repeatable skillsthat can be used for different playstyles. Investing inthe cloaking abilityfor the Light character orthe Guardian Turretcan help you see immediate improvements in each game.

Automatic guns that are easier to handlemight also be betterwhen you’re starting than weapons that require specific precision.Once you get more familiarwith the game’s system, you can invest in the sniper rifle or the throwing knives with much more confidence.
