Most survival crafting games have some basics that you should get the hang of if you plan on expanding your village from the ground up and surviving against the odds.Lego Fortnite Odysseyis no different. Despite its cheery exterior, there are a lot of dangerous creatures and treacherous weather that can surprise you if you’re not looking.
Basic crafting is easy to get the hang of, but there are some neat items and strategies in the game that you should know about. Mastering the essentials sets a solid foundation, making daring adventures and effective use of NPCs and items a breeze in your Lego Fortnite Odyssey journey.

Upgrade Your Village As Soon As Possible
Whether you’re simply using the base village you start in or when you expand out to build your own village,upgrading your village is important.These safe zones are your base of operation where you’ll have your utility stations, rest for the night, and hoard all of your hard-earned loot.
Depending on your level and where your village is based,your Village Hub tower can be upgradedwillrequire you to complete different objectives in order to upgrade it, with most asking for local resources or crafted items.
Each upgrade will unlock new perkssuch as theability to recruit more NPCs and unlock new furniture. You’ll want to upgrade your village to maximise how many villagers you have working for you at any one time, asthey can be assigned different jobsto go and collect resources, cook food, or more. This makes life much easier for you as you don’t have to do all the hard work yourself.
Build A Bus Station Within Your Village
You canfind Bus Stations all over the island, and as soon as youdestroy one, you’ll unlock the crafting recipefor it too. It’s worth destroying the first you come across, gathering the materials, and re-assembling it in your main village as an easy fast travel point.
Once you are able tofarm more Rift Shardsto craft more Bus Stations, you can then set up a fast travel network wherever you need it.
Bring NPCs With You On Long Expeditions
Whether you are playing the game aloneor with friends, you should bring an NPC villager with you on your adventures if you have an extra hand lying around. When NPCs defend the base at home, they will automatically have swords. When you invite them out to explore,you will have to supply them with tools.
Their tools will break just like yours, so you will have to ensure they have whatever tool you want them to have, such as a pickaxe or sword. While with you,NPCs will break rocks or trees with youwhen you perform the action. They will alsofight any hostile creaturethat aggro onto you.
Be sure to upgrade their equipment alongside upgrading your own to allow for easier battles or resource gathering!
NPC villagers can die, butthey will respawn next to youafter a while. This means that you can hide somewhere or take a break until they respawn again.
Grow Spicy Peppers And Chillberries
Some biomes are dangerous even before you encounter the beasts roaming them. Just stepping foot on the edge of theFrostlands will give you the condition Coldand then eventually Freezing in Ice Caves,while theDry Valley will inflict Heaton you andBurning in some Caves. These status affects will deplete your health over time.
There are armor charms you’re able to wear to protect against dangerous conditions, but anotheruseful way to protect yourself is by consuming specific food. Spicy Peppers can be used toalleviate your Cold symptoms, whileChillberries can be used to relieve the Heat.
Spicy Peppers are found in the Dry Valley, while Chillberries are native to the Frostlands. Once you have some, you canmake seeds using your Grain Milland then grow them in your village.
Follow The Fairy
Just like in regular Fortnite,you’re able to find rare Loot Llamas that contain uncommon or rare resources. As you explore around the map, you may find a fairy. Fairies aretwinkling, sparkling entities that glow and change colors.
When you spot a fairy,follow it to find rare loot. They will either lead you to a Loot Llama or a golden chest. These chests or llamas can contain resources and unique items.
Pick Up Weapons And Tools Dropped By Enemies
When Lego Fortnite Odyssey first launched, any tools and weapons dropped by enemies and found in chests only had a sliver of health left on them and they weren’t really worth even holding onto.
However, since the Odyssey update,weapons and tools dropped by enemies and found in chests are now full health, and you can find some really rare and strong items to use so don’t forget to pick them up! Even if you don’t want them for yourself,they’re probably a good upgrade for your NPC adventurer.
Switch Things Up In Combat
You don’t have to just whack things with your sword, in fact, you’llprobably survive a lot better if you mix things up a bit. Ensure youhave a Shield to help block hefty damage and a decent melee weapon, but there’s more to battle than just that.
You canuse your NPC buddy as bait, letting the biggest beasties chow down on them while you use aranged weaponso you may keep your distance while attacking.
Pistols are great ranged weapons as they have a knock back effect then sends you flying backwards when fired, allowing you to spring away from danger.
You candodge too, and you should abuse this ability over shieldingunless you are fighting a large enemy with AoE attacks, as then it avoids taking damage altogether.
Craft Map Markers
The map in Lego Fortnite Odyssey is quite large. There aredifferent biomesand they all span a great distance, so it’s easy to forget what is where. When you find caves, they will automatically be marked on your map and you can see a cave icon. Other important areas on the map do not get marked, though.
It is important to use Map Markers forimportant areas of interest, perhaps you noticeBrutes tend to lurkin the same area or you want to keep track ofgood places to fish. The Map Marker recipe is unlocked near the beginning of the game, once you have unlocked, crafted, and placed a campfire and Village Hub Square.
They are cheap to make, too,costing only two Granite!
Always Have Wood In Your Inventory
Once you go out exploring far enough, you’ll start to wish you had Wood and Planks with you. Most especially in caves. In caves, you may notice that rare resources or chests are high up on the ceiling or on ledges that you cannot access. This is why having bothraw Woodandprepared Planksis necessary.
Having these resources at the ready willallow you to craft Stairs on a whim. Crafting Stairs is the best way to access hard-to-reach areas or even to create a vantage point in a fight. Once you have placed Stairs, or any structure at all, you candestroy it with a Pickaxe to regain your materialsfor use at a later date.
Pick Settings That Best Suit Your Playstyle
There’s no point playing a game if you’re not going to enjoy it, and maybe there are aspects of Lego Fortnite Odyssey you like and others you don’t. Fortunately,you may tweak a lot about how your world works.
You can adjustwhether there are enemies, enemy difficulty, whether you’ll fall victim to hunger, whether you need stamina, and lots more. You make the game as hard or easy as you like to suit your preferred playstyle and allow you to enjoy it more.
