Summary
On paper, you would think the PS4’s library would be cheaper in comparison to systems decades older. That assessment would be incorrect as the PS4 surprisingly outdoes many older systems in terms of how jacked-up game prices can be. This is primarily due to one key factor: The switch to online shopping.
While physical shopping has its issues with rarity, online shopping is a whole different ballpark. With tons of limited releases on oddball storefronts, most of the rarest games on the system were sold this way. If you were one of the lucky ones who managed to snag these, you got more than you bargained for.

Updated on Jun 06, 2025, by Dominic Allen:The PlayStation 4 is such a rich system to collect for with an amazing library that’s still getting new releases to this day. Due to the rich library, though, some are very expensive and actively rising in price. Even more PS4 games were added, as well as removing the top spot Gravel because it has since tanked in value. That happens sometimes.

12The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Collector’s Edition - $499
The Collector’s Edition Of The Game Of The Generation
DespiteThe Witcher 3being one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, the hype wasn’t huge for most gamers before release. It wasn’t until the game dropped that the wide gaming community knew this title was truly something special. As such, the Collector’s Edition wasn’t widely purchased in mass, making it more valuable today.
The actual contents are the usual stuff you’d come to expect: a soundtrack CD, steelbook, artbook, map, trinkets, and the true hobo classic of bonus extras: stickers. You also get a very nice statue of Geralt attacking a Griffon, which is easily the best part of the package. With how well revered Witcher 3 is and its actual rarity, the Collector’s Edition earns its nearly $500 price for diehard Witcher fans.

11Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers Collector’s Edition - $507
The Square Enix Store Rears Its Ugly Head
Looking back, it’s incredibly odd that the third expansion pack to an MMORPG was released physically in the States in 2019. TheFinal Fantasyname clearly has name recognition, but the reason behind the rarity of this Collector’s Edition ofan all-time great MMOis more interesting than you’d think.
This Collector’s Edition was exclusively available on the Square Enix store, an online storefront with a history of ludicrously expensive games. Not so much on release, but rather afterward, because virtually nobody took advantage of the store until fairly recently. As such, many Square Enix store exclusives are skyrocketing in price.

10Nier: Automata Collector’s Edition - $532
The Square Enix Store Strikes Again
For a long time, nobody seemed to take advantage of the truly cool stuff on offer through the Square Enix online store. Brand new PS1 and PS2 games were being sold there for a while until word finally got out. This would explain the rarity ofNier: AutomataCollector’s Edition.
This product wasn’t originally sold on Amazon, Walmart, or places like that. Instead, you had to purchase it through the Square Enix store. Many didn’t pick this up, likely because they didn’t know it even existed. The Collector’s Edition itself is nice, with a soundtrack and a 2B figurine. However, it’s not worth the price, and if you want a 2B figure, there’s plenty of other options.

9Rock Band 4 Rivals Band Kit Bundle - $579
Forwards Compatible
Final Fantasy 14 wasn’t the only title to receive physical versions of its expansions, asRock Band 4had its own Band Kit Bundle for Rock Band Rivals. Full in-box copies of these rhythm games with instruments are getting more and more expensive, and you may think it’s just for nostalgia, but that’s not the whole story.
A large reason why these Band Kits are so highly desired, especially this one, is that Rock Band 4’s instruments are backward compatible with Fortnite Festival. With how popular Fortnite is these days and the continued support of Festival with new seasons featuring Billie Eilish and Metallica, you can understand why people would still want to pick these up for the best possible experience.

8Titanfall 2 Collector’s Edition - $600
Flopped Games Can Be Expensive
One of the most acclaimed FPS games in recent memory has to beTitanfall 2. Its campaign was lauded by both critics and fans alike, but unfortunately, it was launched at a bad time with tons of more anticipated games. Titanfall 2 underperformed, which is perhaps why its $250 Collector’s Edition is so expensive now.
That was the original MSRP, and if you picked one back then, you’d gain $350 with its current asking price. You get a sweet-looking helmet in a package that diehard fans will want to seek out. Luckily, this Collector’s Edition wasn’t sold on any weird online storefront, or else the price would be much higher than $600.

7Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Juggernog Edition - $615
A Treat For Any Zombies Player
Call of Dutyhas a knack for prestigious collector’s editions that often come with real tactical equipment like Night Vision Goggles, a Drone, or a little RC Car with a mounted camera. Black Ops 3 did something different but equally prestigious. You got a mini fridge resembling the Juggernog machine from COD Zombies.
This is cool by itself, but keep in mind that Black Ops 3 isthe Zombie game of the franchise. The best Zombies mode comes from Black Ops 3, and most people playing the title today are doing so for Zombies. The mini fridge is a perfect companion piece for its players. There’s quite a bit of demand from hardcore Zombies fans, and that’s probably why this edition’s so expensive.

6Tamashii - $652
The Rarest Limited Run Game On The Console
A lot of titles get physical releases due to Limited Run Games. The company allows so many games that would usually be digital-only to be preserved this way, and that’s awesome. However, because of the limited runs, you should expect their releases to rise in price over time.
Normally, the prices will get close to $100 or sometimes a few hundred. Tamashii, on the other hand, costs a whopping $652. That’s ridiculous for a Limited Run game. It’s a shame, too, because Tamashii isa phenomenal indie horror title. If you’re a big fan, you’ll just have to accept it missing on your shelf.

5NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Edition - $769
A Con Exclusive
Comic-Con exclusives are a well-known and common variant you’ll often see in the action figure world. TheNBA 2K19Travis Scott Edition is the video game equivalent. Instead of Comic-Con, though, these were distributed at ComplexCon 2018 in Long Beach, California.
No massive lines here, as the copies were giveaways, leaving it up to sheer luck on whether you would get one. With how rare the game is, along with demand from music fans, this would be the most expensive game on most other systems. It’s not even on the top echelon of PS4 games, however.

4Assassin’s Creed Origins Dawn Of The Creed Legendary Edition - $838
A High-Value Item, Then And Now
Most expensive games start at a normal price and gradually increase in value over time. That is not the case with the Legendary Edition ofAssassin’s Creed Origins. Starting at $800 MSRP, it was a high-value item to begin with.
To boot, it was sold exclusively on the Ubisoft Store, making the item not as visible to customers. You get quite a lot of goodies inside that’ll make fans happy, but strangely, this product has not seen a big increase in value. Origins is one ofthe best instalments in the series, so you’d think the demand would be higher.
31001 Spikes - $968
A Truly Rare Physical Game
1001 Spikes is an oddball throughout the PS4 library because it was never actually launched physically. It was supposed to, but never got officially sold to customers. Why can you buy it then?
Well, it’s due to promo copies sent to Sony that ended up going into the hands of people willing to take the risk of selling them for a profit. Publisher Nicalis wasn’t too happy about this, but what did they expect? If you give individuals rare stuff, and it’s not company-owned, they’re going to sell it for some hard dough.
