It’sPlayStation Portalrelease day, but for the most part, if you didn’t manage to bag yourself a pre-order, you won’t be taking the remote player for a spin anytime soon. Despite being criticized by many between its reveal and release, securing a pre-order for the Portal has been pretty tricky as November 15 has grown closer. So difficult that even though the device has now been released, only one retailer has any left in stock, and I’m fairly certain they’ll sell out fast.
Keep an eye onour PlayStation Portal pre-order guideif you’re trying to grab a Portal. Even though the device has been released, the links in that article will still take you to the relevant store pages, giving you a hub to quickly check if it has been restocked anywhere.

GameStopappears to be the only place with any PlayStation Portals left in stock at the moment, and you can try your luck and pick up your very own by clicking the link below. Again, you’ll likely need to have found this article pretty soon after it was published to be in luck with landing a Portal. If the pre-order process has been anything to go by, then what I’m assuming is a limited number of devices left at GameStop will be snapped up fast.
PlayStation Portal
The PlayStation Portal is a handheld companion to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. Based around the features of a DualSense controller and Remote Play, it features an eight-inch LCD screen at 1080p resolution capable of 60fps, a headphone jack for wired audio.
There are a few reasons why the Portal hasn’t been praised by everyone during the build to its release. Some have criticized that it can’t stream games which means playingPS3games on the device is a no-go. Then again,PlayStationnever suggested that would be a possibility, nor did it ever mention the Portal being able to stream games. It has always been marketed as a Remote Player, and clearly that’s something a lot of people want in their lives.
Only being able to use the Portal when connected to WiFi doesn’t seem to have slowed its sales either. This isn’t PlayStation’s take on theNintendo Switch. It’s effectively an accessory for yourPS5. Not only do you need a PS5 for it to work, but the console needs to be turned on for the Portal to connect to it. That means the device has largely been designed for home use, although it’s still hypothetically possible to play games from anywhere in the world provided you have a strong internet connection and your PS5, wherever it might be, is switched on.
The release of the Portal continues a busy holiday season for PlayStation hardware, right after the third anniversary of the PS5’s launch. The slimmer models of the studio’s latest consolewere released last week, andits Pulse Explore Earbuds, which are available to pre-order, will be here next month.
