The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomrevolutionized shield surfing with the introduction of fusing as a mechanic. By fusing a Zonai cart or even, surprisingly, a piece of frozen meat to your shield, you can shield surf farther and faster.

Unfortunately, you will be on the ground floor of Hyrule, rather than in the Depths or on the Sky Islands when you’re attempting to pull out some Shield Surfing magic. The Sky Islands don’t offer enough space or hills to properly surf and the Depths are just a bit too dark and deadly to enjoy a good shield surf.

10Lurelin Village’s Coastline

Try It At Least Once

You may not have known this, but you can actually surf on the coastlines around Lurelin Village. Where the water and beach meet, there’s just enough of a slope that you can easily shield surf. It’s not particularly fast, but it’s certainly worth trying at least once.

It definitely helps that Lurelin Village and the surrounding areas are incredibly pretty, which makes the trek to the coast worth it. You may only attempt this surf once or twice, but it’s fun to try and to show off to others.

9Death Mountain

Daredevils Only

Death Mountain is an experience that should probably only be attempted once or twice. Once you’ve gotten up to the mouth of the Volcano, position yourself toward Akkala and set loose. You may end up in free fall once or twice, and finding the perfect spot is more difficult than you might care to admit.

However, it’s such a rush and so different from the other shield surfing spots that it’s worth attempting. Just have your hand onyour fancy paraglideror have some really high health.

8Satori Mountain

It’s Very Scenic

Satori Mountain is incredibly beautiful, home to a gorgeous tree and the Lord of the Mountains. However, getting onto Satori Mountain is a little bit tedious and requires a lot of running or climbing. The shield surf is fun and very pretty, but it almost feels like it’s over a little too soon.

Regardless, it’s worth trying a few times over, especially given that the path isn’t too difficult to navigate once you’ve run through it once or twice. If you’re lucky, you may even outpace a blupee or two.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Link Shield Surfing from the top of Mount Lanayru

7Mount Lanayru

Surprisingly Fun

Mount Lanayru provides a surprisingly fun shield surfing area, enemies aside. After you’ve unlocked the shrine at the top of the mountain it is exceedingly easy to get back up.

You will needa Zonai cart or piece of frozen meat fused to your shieldso you won’t have any issues on the exposed stair areas. The path is long and the scenery is actually quite appealing, though you might be moving so fast at some points that it would be hard to fully appreciate it.

6Cape Cales

A Modest Shield Surf

Cape Cales and Mount Dunsel make a fairly easy shield surf, regardless of whether or not you’re new to the mechanic. There is an enemy den on Cape Cales, but after clearing that out, you’re golden.

For this shield surfing area, you will probably want to attach a piece of frozen meat or a Zonai cart to fully enjoy your way down, though it isn’t necessary. you may easily ride this hill down without many obstacles or enemies (after the den, of course), though the lack of bumps and jumps may be a downside for some.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Link Shield Surfing from the top of Mount Hylia

5Mount Hylia

Advanced Surfers Only

Mount Hylia can provide a fun shield surfing area, but you should probably only attempt it once you’re confident in your skills. There are a fair few monsters, and getting up to Mount Hylia is no easy task. If you choose to start from the very top you’re going to fall because there’s just not enough room to jump or to get going.

However, a little further down from the top, you can be met with some challenging turns and pathing, which makes for a great time.

4Akkala Ancient Tech Lab

Dodge And Weave

Akkala Ancient Tech Lab is interesting because while the area is filled with enemies, you don’t need to clear it out. Most of the enemies are far enough away that you may shield surf from the lab without worries.

Although the Yiga Clan has made the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab their home, you don’t have to fight them so long as you don’t knock on the door. The statues that the Yiga Clan has put up make for very fun obstacles to dodge and weave around.

3Mount Rhoam

Scenic And Fun Turns

Mount Rhoam is situated almost directly under the Light Dragon’s flight path, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see her drifting by while you shield surf. Mount Rhoam is friendly to new and old shield surfers, offering both sharp and easy turns.

If you attach a piece of frozen meat or a Zonai cart to the bottom of your shield, you can go even further, though it isn’t necessary here. There aren’t that many enemies, if any, but you do need to hike up if you want to properly shield surf off of the mountain.

2Hateno Ancient Tech Lab

Branching Paths For Unique Shield Surfing

Once you’ve unlocked the fast travel for the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, it’s actually quite delightful to shield surf in the area. You are met with some fun turns and the chance to fall off of the cliffside (albeit not very far) and some branching paths.

If you choose to follow the shield surfing route down to the beach, you can expect a slightly longer ride along with a fight at the end. However, if you head into town, you are pleasantly dropped off and can continue on your way, enjoying the scenery and atmosphere.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Link Shield Surfing from Selmie’s Spot on Hebra Mountain

1Selmie’s Spot

The Perfect Shield Surfing Spot

Selmie’s Spot on Hebra Mountain is literally made for shield surfing. It containsthe only shield-surfing minigamein the entirety of Hyrule. The twists, turns, and jumps are perfect for both new and advanced shield surfers.

If you want to go somewhere to shield surf, hitting up Selmie’s Spot once, twice, or multiple times in a row is a necessity. Plus, if you’re doing Selmie’s challenge, you won’t have to hike your way back up the trail after you’re done, which is a big plus factor compared to every other shield surfing spot in Hyrule.
