Remnant 2offers an impressive selection of suffix-based modifiers that can make boss fights range from largely manageable to borderline overwhelming. It wouldn’t be a souls-like, though, if there weren’t any enemies or mechanics forcing you to frantically roll around like an armadillo that broke into your energy drink stash.

Well okay, souls-likes are far more than just a rolling mechanic; the difficulty matters too. Speaking of difficulty, if you’re wondering which boss modifiers will bump up the challenge the most, you’re in the right place. After reading, you’ll be able to recognize the most annoying or dangerous modifiers, and prepare accordingly.

Modifiers that affect Aberrations, the enhanced versions of common enemies that have a red glow, are not mentioned because they do not appear on “true” bosses, such as the Abomination or Sha’Hala.

7Empathy

Just Let Us Heal The Easy Way

You only need to play oneDark Soulsgame to know that the Estus Flask, the handy, refillable consumable that restores large quantities of health, tends to be a hallmark of most souls-like games these days, and Remnant 2 is no exception.

The problem is, if you’re up against a boss with the Empathy modifier, they’re happy to cash in on some of that healing as well. In other words, using your Relic to heal will, unfortunately, heal the boss you’re fighting at the same time. To counter this, you’ll need someone playing as the medic class, a ring that heals you in some way, or an alternative healing method, such as bandages.

6Hearty

Oh, More Health And Defense, Wonderful

If you end up fighting a boss with the Hearty modifier, it just means you’re likely in for an extended battle, because this suffix not only increases a boss' overall health bar, but also its general defense.

At the end of the day, the counter to this modifier comes down to firepower and patience. If you notice this suffix giving you a tough time, try learning and accurately targeting the boss' weakspots if possible, equipping gear that improves crit chance and damage, or laying down a bunch of status effects.

5Thick Skin

No Love For Weakspot And Crit Builds

While the Thick Skin suffix will always be a bit of a barrier to all classes, builds, and playstyles, it’s especially annoying for those of you that prefer weak spot and crit-based builds, since it reduces the damage that weak spots normally deal, and dampens both your crit-chance and crit damage.

If you’re having a tough time with a boss that has this suffix, your best bet is to bring in a couple of friends that are able to deal high DPS, so that you’re able to all focus on bringing down the boss as quickly as possible.

4Regenerator

“Wait… The Boss Has Regen?”

Bosses that have the Regenerator suffix can be incredibly annoying and frustrating to deal with because as the modifier’s name implies, any damage you deal to the boss will effectively be dampened by a constant health regeneration effect.

While some patience will go a long way in these situations, if you’re running a build that is centered around dealing damage over time, you’ll likely have a much easier time than builds that don’t because you’ll still be dealing damage, even when you’re reloading or dodging.

3Drain

Isn’t Lifesteal A Player Mechanic?

If you’re duking it out with a boss that has the Drain suffix, you’ve hopefully worked on your dodging skills, and recognizing when an attack is about to happen, because this modifier will heal the boss every time it successfully smacks you.

However, if you don’t have the reflexes of a cat, or the stamina that Geralt from theWitcherseries has, you should consider equipping gear that makes it easier to dodge, such as the Bisected Ring, which gives you infinite stamina, and thus practically infinite dodging, at the cost of receiving 15 percent increased damage from all sources.

2Elemental Resist

Hopefully You Have A Way To Deal Raw Damage

If you enjoy sporting Corrosive Rounds for the added damage over time thanks to the Corroded effect, zapping and burning your enemies, or otherwise basing your build on applying negative status effects to your enemies, seeing the Elemental Resist modifier is a very unwelcome sight.

This modifier is a pain because it severely reduces the effectiveness of your elemental status effects, but if you’ve invested in non-elemental status effects, such as bleeding, those ailments will ignore this modifier. Otherwise, you’re going to have to find a way to output as much raw damage as you possibly can.

1Spiteful

You Better Finish Them Off Quick

It’s no secret that boss fights can take some time, especially ones that have multiple stages. Usually, this isn’t that big of a deal, especially if you have a decent amount of mental fortitude and don’t mind a bit of failure. The problem is, bosses with the Spiteful suffix turn time against you.

In other words, a boss with Spiteful will deal more damage the lower its health bar gets, meaning it’s in your best interest to end the boss fight as quickly as possible, especially when you get the boss below half, or even more importantly, 75 percent of its health.
