TheXbox 360was Microsoft’s main console for plenty of years. So, naturally, many different types of games were released on the system, including plenty of zombie-based ones. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since the gaming industry has been interested in undead hordes for a long time.

The beauty of zombies, though, is that they’re very versatile. They can pop up in all sorts of games, from action titles to open-world affairs to, of course, survival horror adventures. And they vary in design as well. Some developers maketheir zombies terrifying, while others make them more wholesome. Either way, these are the best Xbox 360 games to include them.

State of decay Screenshot Of Three Characters In House With Some Bodies On The Ground

State of Decay is more about surviving zombies rather than killing them. Naturally, you can and will take out a bunch of them throughout the game. Yet, the main focus is keeping your group of survivors alive. So, you have to build up your base, acquire resources, and keep your crew’s spirits up.

There are also main quests to complete. Therefore, you can’t just hide in your well-fortified hideout. You have to go out in the zombie-filled world. While out there, you must use stealth and some third-person shooting skills to survive. And the word ‘survive’ is key, as there is a perma-death element to the game. When you die, that survivor is gone, and you must control another. You can also switch regularly to keep your controllable character from being too fatigued.

When you think of zombies, you likely don’t think of tower-defense games. Yet,Plants Vs. Zombiesis one ofthe greatest tower defense gamesin history. The place you’re defending is your own home. This is because you play as someone living in a zombie apocalypse, and you must stop members of the undead horde from reaching your house.

If you were in this situation in real life, you probably wouldn’t look to your plants to save the day. Yet, this game is a little quirky, and your greenery actually has defensive capabilities. In each level, you have to place them in the right spots to keep the zombies at bay.

InDead Rising 2, you play as Chuck Greene, who is taking part in a game show in the fictional town of Fortune City. The said game show revolves around killing zombies. If you think locking up zombies to use for a game show seems dangerous, you would be right, as they get released very early in the game.

From this point, Chuck has to keep himself and his young daughter safe. The latter is already infected, so he uses a special medicine called Zombrex to keep her human. Therefore, along with finding a way to escape the now zombie-infested city, you also need to get her medicine. To do all this, you must get past many hordes of the undead beasts. There are so many that you can’t kill them all. But you can thin their numbers using a range of wild and wonderful weapons.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Screenshot Of John Marston With Torch In Hand Riding Away From Zombies

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is a standalone expansion to the originalRed Dead Redemption. However, it feels like a full game. The premise is that many people in the Red Dead world have suddenly become zombies. This includes protagonist John Marston’s own family. So, you have to set off into the world to find a cure of some kind.

This story forces you to travel all around Red Dead’s big open world. Along the way, you run into many zombies that need killing and some people that need saving. Combat is almost identical to the original Red Dead Redemption, meaning there is plenty of third-person, over-the-shoulder shooting. And as this is a Western, you use weapons that fit the time period, such as revolvers and repeaters. It’s an unusual and enjoyable game.

Lee Everett from The Walking Dead crouches whilst holding a gun

Not every season of Telltale’sThe Walking Deadis available on the Xbox 360. But you can play the entire first season on the system, and it happens to be the best and most self-contained one. It’s a story-driven narrative adventure title where gameplay consists of making choices and passing quick-time events.

The best part is the story, which revolves around a man named Lee and a young girl called Clementine, whom he’s trying to protect. Throughout the tale, the twotalented zombie survivorsattempt to find a safe place to stay amid the apocalypse. Along the way, they meet plenty of interesting people, and their adventure remains compelling throughout.

The first zombie in Resident Evil 1 (remastered)

2Resident Evil HD Remaster

Resident Evilis one of the most influential survival horror series ever, and it really helped popularize zombies in games. This all started with the original instalment, which you’re able to experience on the Xbox 360 through the remaster.

This version is a bit more polished than the original. But it still includes the classic fixed camera angles of the original and similar gameplay. Plus, the premise is the same, as you play as a member of the elite S.T.A.R.S unit who gets trapped inside a large and complex mansion filled with zombies and other deadly creatures. You must find a way out.

A screenshot showing a group of survivors gunning down a zombie in Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2proves how simple zombie titles can be. Every campaign in the game revolves around you getting from safe house to safe house while blasting away every zombie in your path before finally making a big escape from the area. There isn’t really a story to follow or deep gameplay mechanics to understand.

Yet, it’s still plenty of fun because the FPS combat is fast-paced and chaotic. Hordes charge at you at a great pace, meaning there is little time for planning or strategy. You simply have to kill them all before they wipe you out first. Things get even more exciting when you bring a friend or three along for the ride, and you all fight for your lives together.
