Summary

In space, no one can hear you scream. InLethal Company, however, your friends might just hear you laugh. The recently released Lethal Company by Zeekerss is a cooperative multiplayerhorror game centeredaround the systematic scavenging and looting of randomly generated abandoned industrial facilities located on moons across the solar system to meet the company quota.

Players will team up to locate scrap, explore, and scan whatever alien life they might come across. Of course, while ostensibly a horror game, half the fun is in goofing off and playing the game in a variety of increasingly wacky ways.

Lethal Company is an Early Access title, and as such, the contents of the game are subject to change over time.

7Go Loud

Make Some Noise

Lethal Company has a proximity voice chat built into the game, and therein lies half the fun. The closer another player is to you, the louder their voice will be, and vice versa. In addition, certain aspects of the game respond to the audio levels of those playing.

Eyeless Dogs, for example, react purely to audio cues, be they vocal or otherwise (walkie-talkies, footsteps). Naturally, the ideal way to play, then, is to go in big and go in loud. Yelling, running, and blasting music from the boom box all accomplish this goal nicely.

6Don’t Buy Anything

Greed Is good

Byaccessing the terminalonboard your ship, you’ll be able to make use of the company store. The currency gained from finding and selling scrap can be used there to purchase a variety of helpful items, from flashlights and shovelsto jet packsand grenades.

Of course, any funds spent here won’t end up counting towards the company quota, so choose wisely, or don’t choose at all. While these items will make the game easier, there’s something to be said for taking the world head-on with only your wits.

5Buy Everything

Get Creative

On the other hand…buying more items means buying more fun. Several items have no use other than what you make of them, such as the boombox (for dancing) or the spray paint (for painting). Or perhaps you’d like to spruce up your ship with extra lights, furniture, and costumes.

Spend a little or a lot: after all, where you’re going, you can’t take it with you. Sure, you might not meet the company quota, but you’ll go out in style.

4Dance

Cut Loose

With a simple press of the keyboard, you, too, can dance your troubles away. Are aliens getting you down? Dance. Behind on your profit quota? Try dancing. There’s no problem, really, that can’t be solved by a little dancing. Dancing in the face of trouble won’t actually get you anywhere, but once someone starts, it has a tendency to spread. Once it spreads, it can be a tough habit to break.

Dancing, for the most part, has no real utility other than the aesthetic, but in a game that’s all about goofing off, it’s one of the sillier activities you have at your disposal. The only other emote, at least for the time being, is the ability to point, something of marginally more use for those without microphones or during situations where you’re better off without talking.

3Bring Your Friends (All Of Them)

Two Is Company But 50 Is A Party

Mods have the capacity to massively expand the lifespan of any type of game, and Lethal Company is no exception. In the base game, Lethal Company supports the ability to play with three other players for a combined total of four.

With the addition of theMoreCompany modby notnotnotswipez, however, the number of players that can join a single lobby can be raised to a staggering max of 50. Of course, the game would be completely unplayable at that point, or with even a fraction of that amount, but really, that’s the point.

2Hide And Seek

Tag, You’re It

In a multiplayer game with proximity audio and expansive, often times winding hallways and tunnels, it’s only natural to get lost from time to time. With the propensity players have for derailing their original objectives, this may even become a goal.

In this sense, Lethal Company provides the natural opportunity to play hide-and-seek with your friends over the internet, where every stifled laugh might be the one that gives you away, and quietly stalking your prey means keeping as quiet as possible so as not to give yourself away.

1Gotta Catch ‘em All

It’s A Big Universe

While many of the alien life that can be found across the many moons of Lethal Company can be, well, lethal, much of it is also equally benign, such as the flying Manticoil, or mostly benign, such as the docile Spore Lizard.

Every player has a scanner built into their suit that will allow them to catalog every alien they discover, so, naturally, some will be drawn to hunting down every type of alien and filling out their bestiary. Be warned, however, as even the most deadly of adversaries will have to be faced in the pursuit of knowledge, which can lead to some situations quickly spiraling out of control.
