Summary

Super Mario Bros. Wonderisn’t the hardest game out there, and you’ll likely be able to reach Bowser with some persistence. Yet some platforming challenges can be a little tricky, especially if you’re trying to 100 percent the game.

While the location of each collectible is somethingwe also provide, actually getting all of them is no joke. And the levels in the Special World will challenge your skills just by trying to finish them, never mind the flower coins. A few extra tricks go a long way in getting to that flag pole.

Yoshi and Nabbit side-by-side in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

8Play As Nabbit Or Yoshi

The Obvious Choice

The advantages of playing these two are clear: enemies and spikes can’t harm you. You still need to do all the platforming yourself, but it’s certainly easier when you’re not also fighting for your life. They can still die from getting crushed or falling off a pit, so you’re not completely invulnerable.

While Nabbit already worked this way in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Yoshi being playable is the real novelty here, and the little dinosaur keeps all his tricks. That includes a floating jump, eating small enemies, and being able to transport other players on its back.

7Use The Auto Super Mushroom Badge

Do This Before Using Nabbit Or Yoshi

Choosing the nigh-immortal characters, Nabbit or Yoshi, is an obvious way of making the game easier. While it’s a valid choice, it has its setbacks, mainly that you’ll miss out on the wonderful new Power-ups the game offers.

And those very Power-ups are sometimes needed to reach collectibles, leaving them out of reach of the mentioned characters. Simply equipping the Auto Super Mushroom Badge lets you have a guaranteed second hit, making all encounters significantly easier. It even works when you respawn at a checkpoint!

6Use The Jet Run Badge Against Wiggler

You’ll Be Running Laps Around Him

One of the best parts of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that, for the most part, there’s no timer on the levels anymore. Now you may relax, smell the Wonder Flowers, and look for collectibles at your leisure. That is, unless you’re in the middle of a race against Wiggler.

If you’re not used to moving fast, these challenges can be your Achilles' heel. But with the Jet Run Badge, the game does the running for you. Combine this with a Nabbit or a Yoshi (so you don’t need to worry about enemies), and you’ll finish the race before Wiggler even starts it.

5Use The Add ! Blocks Badge For Tricky Platforming Challenges

They Can Really Make A Difference

There are platforming levels where, no matter what Action Badge you take, they just feel impossible. Especially the ones with disappearing platforms, since it seems like there’s just not enough time for you to make the jump. If only there was a way to add more places to jump.

Well, there is, and it’s all thanks to the Add ! Blocks Badge. Their main purpose is to serve as platforms, but they have other uses, like holding items and such. But the platforms are the main reason you want the Badge, and you can get it easily and early, too. It’s just a purchase away in World 2.

4Don’t Change Action Badges Too Often

Practice Makes Perfect

Action Badges offer great movement options for traversing the levels, and they even work with our friends Nabbit and Yoshi! You can have a wide variety of gadgets, like a grappling hook or a parachute. The only issue is that they tend to use the same button for everything. And with so many Badges, it can get confusing.

It’s advised that, when playing normally, you stick to the one Badge you’re most comfortable with. Which Badge depends on you. It’s recommended to stick with the Floating High Jump Badge. It’s the easiest one to use (no extra buttons, just keep the jump button pressed), and it’ll give you a lot of forward momentum.

3Enable Multiplayer For Revives

Shadows That Help

Among the collectibles in Super Mario Bros. Wonder are the Standees, cardboard cutouts of each playable character that you may place on the ground while playing. If you’ve never played online, their use might seem nonsensical, but they’re the way players help each other across the internet.

The real purpose of a Standee is that, when playing online, other players can use your Standee to revive while in ghost form. And, of course, you can do the same thing with their Standees. Doing this won’t cost you a life, so you can keep going as if nothing happened.

2Get Infinite 1-Ups

It’s Easier Than It Seems

No matter how many tips and tricks you follow, you will eventually mess up and lose a life. Even when using Yoshi, some platforming challenges are just that hard. The worst part is losing progress, especially if you go down to zero lives and lose your checkpoint. This is why facing a difficult challenge with the maximum number of lives is recommended.

As to how you go about it, well, there area few ways to do so in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. All you need to do is keep jumping on top of enemies without touching the ground, the ideal enemy here being Koppa shells, since if you just jump on top of them, they don’t die.

The ideal level is Scram, Skedaddlers, where careful pipe placement can make the jumps a breeze.

1Use Two Yoshis For The Invisibility Badge

It Works When Playing Solo, Too

The Invisibility Badge is a different kind of challenge, where the biggest problem is not knowing where you are. Being invulnerable won’t help you here, since falling off a cliff is the biggest danger. But there’s a way to know where you are at all times, and it involves local multiplayer.

This trick is meant for solo players, so don’t worry if you don’t have anyone to play with. Set the player number to two, then have both players be Yoshi. When starting the level, have one Yoshi jump on top of the other. And you’re done! You now have a shiny crown showing you where you are and all the Yoshi’s powers to boot.
