Updated on July 26, 2025, by Dennis Moiseyev:The modding community continues to make some much-needed improvements and interesting changes in aesthetics to Alan Wake 2. Since this article was last written, some more terrific and helpful mods have come out that shouldn’t go unmentioned. Here is the updated list of Alan Wake 2’s mods.

12Color Grading Be Gone By AndrewBroderic

Get Rid Of The Blues

Brighten the night in Alan Wake 2 and turn it into a more grayish Silent Hill-type vibe with this color grading removal mod for Alan Wake 2, which “removes all LUT color grading.” You might’ve noticed it gets pretty pitch dark and disorienting to roam around open roads at night, and this mod removes that heavy blue and green filter.

In Alan Wake 2, even though you have your flashlight, you still want visibility to be the best that it possibly can be,especially when those Taken come for you in the late evening hours. With this, a more neutral tone is applied to all textures.

11Steam Overlay For Epic Launcher By Xeno, XenoShard

Add Alan Wake 2 To Your Steam Library

On PC, Alan Wake 2 is an Epic Games exclusive and, therefore, doesn’t appear on Steam since Epic is the publisher for this survival horror title from Remedy. However, XenoShard’s mod creates a fix for the Steam Overlay, meaning you can now access it directly from your Steam library.

This is great if you prefer Steam to Epic and were hesitant about getting Alan Wake 2 for that exclusivity reason. Now you’re able to follow the instructions on the mod and get the game running from Steam instead of through the Epic Launcher.

10Effect Remover By SilverEzredes

Low Health Effects? Not Anymore

When you’re low on health in a video game, you typically get some kind of visual feedback telling you it’s time to heal up. Call of Duty makes blood droplets appear with a red filter covering your screen, while Resident Evil has the vital signs of your character showing red. Alan Wake 2 goes with the former and has a blood effect surrounding your character.

It’s a hazy cloud of red filling around the screen, and if you want it removed, the Effect Remover mod will clear it off your screen. It’ll give you better visibility because those Taken are quick and teleport fast from any side, so it’s better to have a complete field of view, especially when near death. Just be wary about healing.

9Assortment Of Alan Wake 2 PC Savegame Files By Razorz_TV And Gmx9990

A Save For Any Need

Saving your game is very critical in Alan Wake 2, especially with the potential bugs and performance issues that may result in you losing your progress. The game gives you only three manual save slotsand tracks one quick save slot and one in-game checkpoint.

There are a total of nine Return chapters and nine Initiation chapterssplit between the protagonists, so providing only three slots is hardly sufficient, and there’ll be a lot of overriding and missing collectibles as a result. The PC Savegame Files mod gives you ten save slots for Saga’s chapters, Return 1 through 6, and Alan’s chapters, Initiation 2 through 4, with the last two Return chapters also included.

This allows you to replay Alan’s musical chapter, We Sing, as many times as you want! Highly recommended.

8Alan Wake 2 Cheat Engine Table By Razors_TV And Gmx9990

Have All The Endless Health, Ammo, And Batteries To Survive Anything

Playing Story mode, this mod will be even more overpowered than it already is, so you’ll probably want this for the hardest difficulty on Alan Wake 2to get all the achievementsand make the Dark Place a breeze. The Alan Wake 2 Cheat Engine Table bestows cheats like never running out of health and an endless supply of resources such as ammo, batteries, and health kits.

The easiest difficulty on Alan Wake 2 is more than manageable without this mod, only needing to heal up very few times in your 15 to 17-hour journey. So, now you shouldn’t be afraid to explore every nook and cranny of the ominous environments and try to easily obtain all the collectibles and upgrades if you’re a completionist while taking on everything that comes your way.

The mod description states that you need to have a Cheat Engine installed to run it successfully.

7Jumpscare Remover By SilverEzredes

Creepy Pop-Up Faces Begone! No Flashlight Needed!

Almost all the scary horror moments in Alan Wake 2come in the form of disturbing flashes of black-and-white faces of the main enemies of the chapter. There can be numerous in one section, and they are placed strategically in unpredictable spots where you really don’t expect to stumble into one.

While they do heighten the terrifying gameplay and are some of the most effective you’ll see in a game, they can turn out quite annoying. If you’re not a fan of jumpscares but want to be immersed in the compelling mystery narrative and twists Alan Wake 2 has, this is a perfect mod for that kind of playthrough. However, you may assume that gameplay-specific jump scares like the Scratch chase sequences and Hammer Taken busting through walls will remain.

6Jumpscare Audio Remover By Antonimus, AntonimusIt

Creepy Pop-Up Faces Stay, But Don’t Make A Sound!

Make things even more interesting with regard to jump scares in Alan Wake 2 by implementing a mod that removes their audio but keeps the black-and-white pop-ups of Scratch, Cynthia, Nightingale, Mulligan, and Thornton. Yep, a jump scare audio remover mod now exists.

This may be the best-of-both-worlds solution for these types of jump scares, still letting them play out in areas where you least expect, but now only muting the loud, eerie sound cues that can cause you to jump. But surely some of those flashes will still achieve a reaction, regardless of sound, especially since their timing changes in New Game Plus.

5Performance Optomizations For Alan Wake 2 By Ertugrul Lordumelkor Gameologs And Elrohir98

Hopefully, No More Falling Through The Map

The PC build has some pretty shocking performance issues that, at first, may seem diabolically disguised as actual happenings in the game. The most notorious are new areas not loading up before you enter them, which will cause you to fall through the floor. One of the most annoying times it can happen is when you’re entering an Overlap or you didn’t save before falling into the void and thus setting yourself back.

The trick to avoiding these issues of environments not loading and sending you even further below ground than you thought possible is to wait patiently a good couple of minutes for the game to process them. The Performance Optimizations mod will hopefully address these issues and any major drops in frame rate during combat sequences.

The mod creator notes that you may experience a potential decrease in graphic quality when implementing this mod.

4Frame Generation To FSR 3 By Nukem And Emoose, Mr1Makaveli

See that FPS Go From Zero To 100 Real Quick

Besides performance issues such as those mentioned above with the 3060 graphics card, you’re also prone to experiencing significant drops in framerate, which often come at the worst of times during intense, fast-paced combat. Those drops can often result in you taking a good chunk of damage or even leaving you frozen sometimes.

This Frame Generation to FSR3 mod for only Nvidia RTX graphic cards in the 20 and 30 series should help by consistently keeping well above 60 FPS throughout the gameplay. This is definitely a good save and a bonus for those who don’t own a 4080 or 4090.

There’s also a separate FSR 3 mod for higher framerates compatible with AMD graphics cards created by Ruba13,which you can download here.

3Simple Realistic 3D For Alan Wake 2 By Chris Rubino (Crubino)

Sharper Quality

The graphical quality of Alan Wake 2 is already phenomenal, and the environments, character models, and textures all seem as realistic as they can be. The only thing is, you may notice there’s a bit of a blurriness present and a darker tint cast like a filter going over the game.

The Simple Realistic 3D mod polishes these up with a custom reshade that brightens the colors and textures and enhances the graphics to look even better and sharper. The before and after image demonstrates how the lighting has significantly improved with this mod.
