A powerful warrior needs the proper equipment to fight. Based on D&D,Baldur’s Gate 3has a plethora of weapons to choose from, each as deadly as the next, divided into many categories and weapon types. Whether you want to fight up close or from afar, cause tremendous damage or additional effects to your target, one of these weapons will certainly suit your needs.

Here, we’ll focus on martial weapons used by Barbarians, Fighters, Rangers, and Paladins (among others, depending on your subclass or other features). Though we won’t mention every weapon type - no amazing flails, sorry - we’ll showcase the best options you’re able to go for to choose what best fits your character build.

10Morningstars

The Sacred Star

Morningstars aren’t popular since they’re outperformed by other weapons, but the Sacred Star is worth mentioning.

This is a +2 morningstar that causes an additional d4radiant damage, and it also penalizes people you hit by giving them a -1 to their attack rolls for a turn. It can frighten undead enemies, and it has a special attack with extra radiant damage and the chance of blinding enemies.

9Rapiers

Infernal Rapier

The Infernal Rapier is an exciting choice for multiclass. It’s also a +1 rapier, and you can calculate your attack and damage using your spellcasting modifier instead of Dexterity.

It gives your spells DC a +1 and the ability to summon a Cambion to help you in combat once per long rest.

Crimson Mischief from Baldur’s Gate 3

Duellist’s Prerogative

Our first legendary weapon is a +3 rapier that causes an additional d4 necrotic damage per attack. It lets you land a critical hit when rolling a 19 and 20 and gives you an additional reaction.

Along with that, your reaction attacks will cause extra necrotic damage equal to your proficiency bonus. Lastly, you can use the spell Challenge to Duel, and you get to attack with your bonus action if you’re not dual-wielding.

8Shortswords

Crimson Mischief

Shortswords have a similar problem to morningstars, but in this case, they’re outperformed by rapiers. Still, a legendary +3 shortsword is worth mentioning.

It causes additional d4 necrotic damage, additional d4 piercing damage if your enemy’s health is at 50 percent or less, and a further seven piercing damage if you hit someone with an advantage. It also lets you keep your damage modifier when wielded in your off-hand, so this is an excellent option to be your secondary weapon.

7Hand Crossbows

Ne’er Misser

This +1 crossbow does force damage as its base damage instead of piercing, meaning you’ll circumvent enemy resistance often, as it is common for enemies to resist piercing damage.

Other than that, it lets you cast Magic Missile at level three once per short rest. Its damage is low, but it’s also force damage, and it doesn’t miss, making this weapon worthy of your attention.

Nyrulna icon from Baldur’s Gate 3

Hellfire Hand Crossbow

Despite being a higher rarity, it’s not as good as the previous one - luckily, you can dual-wielding them. This +2 crossbow lets you cast Scorching Ray at the third level (four shots) per short rest.

It also burns your enemies, dealing extra damage if you hit them while hiding or while you’re invisible, making it perfect for ambushes.

6Longswords

Phalar Aluve

A decent choice for offense and support, this +1 sword gives you a bonus in performance and two unique features: Sing and Shriek.

Sing will give all nearby allies a d4 bonus to their attacks, as well as Wisdom, Charisma, and Intelligence Saving Throws. As for Shriek, it gives nearby enemies a d4 penalty on their Saving Throws and a d4 Thunder damage.

Corpsegrinder icon from Baldur’s Gate 3

Voss' Silver Sword

Voss has all the good stuff. This +2 sword deals an additional d4 psychic damage and another bonus d4 to specific enemies, such as Githyanki and Aberrations (which includes Mind Flayers), Fiends, and Elementals.

Lastly, it lets you castWrathful Smiteonce per long rest, meaning you get a nice damage burst when needed.

5Tridents

Trident Of The Waves

A +1 Trident is a good start and causes an extra d4 cold damage, hurting more than most. The fun part is that, on a hit, it creates a water surface around the target, making them and near enemies wet.

Wet enemies are vulnerable to cold and lightning damage, meaning your trident and your spells with these damage types will hurt more. It also makes people resistant to fire, so be careful with your spell choice.

Gontr Mael from Baldur’s Gate 3

Nyrulna

This legendary +3 trident causes an extra d6 thunder damage, making this weapon rival heavy ones in raw damage.

It also gives you extra movement, immunity from fall damage, and throwing this weapon causes an explosion that deals 3d4 Thunder damage. Plus, the trident will return to you after it is thrown.

4Polearms

Moonlight Glaive

This +2 glaive is awesome for raw damage, as it causes an extra d4 radiant damage per attack. It also illuminates the area, in case you don’t have Darkvision.

It also has an extra attack that uses illusion to deal extra Psychic damage to a target, making your attacks hurt a bit more when necessary.

Halberd Of Vigilance

Now we have a +2 halberd that causes a d4 force damage. It also gives you a +1 to your initiative and advantage on Perception rolls, but that’s not the fun part.

This halberd gives you an advantage on all your reaction attacks, making it a perfect combination to theSentinel feat- a common choice for polearm characters, especially when combined with Polearm Master.

3Mauls

Corpsegrinder

Bludgeoning damage is pretty handy occasionally, making this +2 maul quite useful. It also comes with an extra d4 thunder damage, making it hit harder than most.

Besides that, it has a unique slam attack on the ground, hitting everyone near with thunder damage, giving you a good area of effect option when fighting.

2Greatswords

Sword Of Chaos

An effective choice for tankers, this +2 sword causes an additional d4 necrotic damage per attack, and every time you hit someone, you heal yourself for 1d6.

The more often you hit enemies, the better your own health will be, making it a marvelous weapon.

Silver Sword Of The Astral Plane

You need to be a Githyanki for this one. It’s a +3 sword that causes an additional d4 psychic damage when wielded by a Gith.

A Gith will also gain an advantage against Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saves, resistance to psychic damage, and immunity to charm effect. It’s the Anti-Mind Flayer.

Balduran’s Giantslayer

This sword is probably the best option if you want raw damage. It’s also a +3 sword, and your Strength bonus on the damage is doubled, meaning your 20 Strength character has a +10 on the damage.

You also have an advantage when attacking large or bigger creatures, and you have Giant Form, which works like Enlarge but gives your attacks an extra d6 and gives you temporary health and an advantage on Strength Checks.

1Longbows

A +2 longbow is already pretty good, but unless you have a disadvantage, your attacks will have your proficiency bonus doubled, going as far as +8 on high levels. Missing a shot will be difficult.

It also decreases the number you need to roll for a critical hit by one, and since there are other items that do this, you can stack these items together.

Gontr Mael

This +3 longbow has a special attack that frightens enemies and causes additional damage to them. Still, its basic attack can also inflict Guiding Bolt, giving an advantage to whoever attacks the same enemy next.

Lastly, it lets you cast Haste once per long rest, which is a deadly spell in the right hands, doubling the number of attacks you’ll deal in the following turns.
