The DM56 is a marksman rifle variant of the Holger 556 inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.It’s a hard-hitting, fast-firing weapon that can down opponents in two headshots or three body shots. It might not one-tap enemies with a headshot, but the fire rate and recoil of the DM56 make it an excellent choice for less accurate players.

But to get the most out of the DM56, you’ll need to use the right attachments. This guide will showcase the best build you may use for the DM56, covering everything from recommended Gunsmith attachments to ideal equipment and perk combinations.

Updated July 11, 2025, by Charles Burgar:The JAK Signal Burst Conversion Kit for the Holger 556 may also be used on the DM56, the first conversion kit to behave this way. We’ve updated this guide to include a burst rifle build for the DM56 that makes it a solid mid-range dueling weapon for more aggressive playstyles.

Marksman DM56 Build

The DM56 requires two headshots or three upper torso shots to kill an opponent, so this weapon needs as manyrecoil reductionandaiming stabilityattachments as possible. Thankfully, the DM56 has plenty of attachments that do just that.

We start by equipping thePrime Lord Heavy Barrel. This greatly improves your aiming idle sway and damage range. TheSonic Suppressorwill then hide your shots from enemy radar while further boosting your range. TheRegency-12 Stock PadandFTAC SP-10 Angled Gripfurther boost your aiming stability.Throw on an opticto finish the build.

With all five attachments, the DM56 hasvirtually no idle swayand experiences damage falloff at 46.7 meters.Unless you’re playing Warzone, it’s rare you’ll fight over distances that large. Stay in the mid-range when possible, aim for the upper torso, and you should come out on top in most gunfights.

Loadout Recommendations

Since this build uses a suppressor, a stealth-focused build is ideal. TheAssassin Vestwill hide your minimap icon at all times, even if you’re stationary.Covert Sneakershas great synergy with this by muffling your footstep audio, making it easy to sprint around the map.Marksman Gloveslower incoming flinch, andEODis a great choice for countering Lethal equipment.

The gear you pair with the DM56 is down to preference. We preferStimsto quickly heal after a gunfight andThrowing Knivesto gain a one-hit kill melee attack. Your secondary weapon of choice is up to you.

JAK Signal Burst DM56 Build

It turns out thatthe Holger 556’s burst-fire conversion kitworks on the DM56. Installing this attachment doesreduce your body shot damage to 45 per bullet, so you’ll need to land an entire burst to kill an opponent. The JAK Signal Burst also substantially increases your visual recoil, contrary to what the in-game pros and cons sheet says.

That’s why this build focuses entirely on maximizing the DM56’srecoil control and firing aim stability. We use theBruen Heavy Support Gripto reduce our horizontal recoil. We then equip theEX01 Match Compensatorto reduce all vertical recoil. TheHolger Recoil Padand5.56 NATO Low Grain Roundswill then grant generic recoil reduction.

All five attachments will more or less eliminate the aggressive diagonal recoil shake on this weapon, although it will have quite a bit of recoil compared to most marksman rifles.Stick to mid-range duelswhen possible, as the gun’s recoil makes long-range sniping incredibly difficult.

This build can’t use a suppressor since it requires a compensator attachment, so we’ll be using a more aggressive perk configuration. TheEngineer Vestgrants a second gear perk and greatly improves your Field Upgrade’s cooldown rate. It also lets you use your Tactical item twice per life. We recommendStims.

As for perks,Ghostis still useful despite not having a suppressor. It will let you reposition without being detected by enemy UAVs.EODis useful for surviving one-hit explosive equipment.Tactical Padsmake sliding and crouching much more responsive, andMarksman Glovesmitigate incoming flinch while ADS.
