9Realm Royale
Battle Royale In A Fantasy Realm
From the same people who made Paladins, Realm Royale brought a more whimsical take to battle royale games, which made it somewhat popular for those who liked games like Fortnite and such. It’s funny, bright, and had a pretty solid foundation gameplay-wise.
It’s quite similar to the concept of other titles in the genre, but it includes a fun fantasy setting with a surprising amount of variety to it. As well, you’re able to enter the game playing as different classes, each with their own special abilities that can help you be the last one standing in the match.

The Battlefield series has been around for a long time now, and for the most part, it has been going head-to-head with the Call Of Duty series with both having a focus on historical-based FPS gameplay.

A fun look at the battle royale genre, but unfortunately one with a short run thanks to the servers shutting down at the beginning of 2023. Spellbreak took the classic battle royale gameplay methods and gave you spells instead of guns to keep yourself alive during the match.
It was a fun fantasy approach to the genre, especially since this specific genre is suffused with a lot of modern-day and FPS elements. All the fun spells and character customization made it a pretty fun game that plenty of people were sad to see go.

Watch Your Step
A more lighthearted approach to the battle royale genre,Fall Guysis cute, bright, but surprisingly intense. It plays similar to like a gameshow, with multiple rounds, challenges, and plenty of excitement. It’s best played with friends for sure, but there’s quite a bit of fun you can have on one of the game’s many challenging maps.
There are no guns, or really any major combat. Instead, you and the rest of your odd characters must move around the map and avoid obstacles, each other, and falling off the map entirely. It’s simplistic, but there’s a whole world of fun you can have with this game.

The battle royale genre is diverse, but none of the games are as dark and foreboding asHunt: Showdownmanages to be. Set right around the turn of the 20th century in an American south beset upon by dark powers, there’s nothing quite like walking through the bayou as a hunter in this game.
Hunt: Showdown gets some extra points by being able to seamlessly balance PVP and PVE in every match. In which, you’re tasked with taking out a highly deadly monster, all the while dodging twisted versions of people and animals, and of course, enemy hunters controlled by other players. It really does feel like the world is out to get you when you enter into a match and start wading through the dark waters of this game.
3Player Unknown’s Battle Grounds (PUBG)

PUBGwas one of the foundational games for the battle royale genre, and while it has fallen back behind some of the more new and flashy games, it is still holding strong as one of the top games in the genre. PUBG was one of the first battle royale games to bring in a shrinking map, loot drops, and different seasons with new content available.
There’s a handful of detailed and quite large maps with random loot drops and plenty of different weapons to make every match feel unique. It’s always surprising how fast things go from quiet to a fight for your life. Whether you’re a fan of squading up with friends or going in solo, you’d be amiss to forget PUBG when thinking about battle royale games.

A sort of spinoff of the popular Titanfall series, the following behindApex Legendsgrew rather quickly, and while it isn’t as flashy as some of the other games on this list, it is consistent enough to earn a top spot.
Cool weapons, unique characters and skills, and a fair amount of map rotation mean a game with asurprising amount of strategybehind it. You definitely know when you come up on a trio that has been playing since one of the early seasons in this highly competitive battle royale game.

The battle royale playstyle of the game is classic with the storm constantly approaching and randomized item drops across the map, and whether or not you agree with the building mechanics, it does add an extra level of strategy to the gameplay. The art style and the pull away from gore element have made it incredibly successful with multiple age groups, and it’s easy to see why after all this time.
