Summary

Alan Waketrades one horrific nightmare for another in a surprise crossover with Dead by Daylight: From the surrealistic Dark Place to the hunting grounds of The Entity’s realm. Like the other Survivors in the game, he faces a deadly challenge. He and his allies must work together to power the exit gates in time, or die a generally ghastly and protracted death when the Killer catches up.

Luckily, Alan isn’t wholly unprepared, bringing with him unique Perks that might just earn the Survivors an escape. With his Perks Champion of Light, Deadline, and Boon: Illumination, he has a bevy of options to utilize. The trickiest part is making a build that suits him and his strengths. Here are some fun, interesting, and powerful Perk builds using the writer’s unique talents. They might just let you author a victory for you and your teammates.

A well timed Flashlight blind from Alan Wake causes The Huntress to drop her prey

Residual Manifest

Haddie Kaur

This build not only lets you come in clutch with the pick-up blind save, but it also debilitates the Killer in the process. You get a massive speed boost fromthe pivotal Perk Background Playerwhen a downed player is picked up, and if you’re close enough, you’ll be in the perfect position to go for a Blind and rescue.

Of course, Champion of Light bolsters your chances, speeding up your movement while aiming the flashlight. If you’re able to pull it off, the Killer ends up in a much worse position, since the Hinder slows them down and the Blindness status effect from Residual Manifest makes you that much harder to track.

Alan Wake aims a flashlight at the camera, its beams blinding the viewer. He can be seen through the sheen

Background Player or Smash Hit

Renato Lyra or Yun-Jin Lee

Dead By Daylight Alan repairs a generator in the woods. A spark illuminates his face

Blast Mine or Flashbang

Jill Valentine or Leon Kennedy

Dead By Daylight - Alan heals a teammate obscured by his body. A QTE skill check shows up in an unusual place.

This build is similar to the previous one, but with a distinctly offensive bent. It will probably have Killers raging if you can pull it off. Beware, though: you might just get tunneled out.

You have a lot of options with this build, but generally, you’ll want to go for some combination of a pallet stun, a Champion of Light-empowered Blind, and then putting a Chemical Trap on the downed pallet. This will put the Killer in a lose-lose situation. They either have to chase you with the Champion slow, leaving the pallet in place, or contend with being slowed by both Chemical Trap and Champion of Light.

Dead By Daylight Alan Cleanses a Hex Totem. It glows a sinister yellow and illuminates Alan’s face

The latter promises a protracted chase at best, and just outright losing you at worst. Your other options depend on whether you want to go full offensive or set up some defensive moves. Either way, they’re all very effective and surely annoying to deal with.

This Isn’t Happening or Stakeout

Dead By Daylight Alan stands in the area of a Boon, as shown by a blue tint over the screen. Two generators, a chest, and a totem are lit up in blue

General Perk or Detective Tapp

Dead Hard

David King

You’ve got five generators to repair before the Killer turns you all into lawn decorations for the Entity. This build will help you do that with gusto. Deadline gives you more skill checks while you’re injured, but they appear in random places, so stay sharp. Every skill check grants extra progress, especially when you’re able to land Great skill checks and when paired with Hyperfocus.

The choice between This Isn’t Happening and Stakeout depends on your ability to land Great skill checks. If you’re confident in your skills, This Isn’t Happening makes them easier to land. If you’re not, Stakeout guarantees them, provided you stalk the Killer for a bit. Dead Hard rounds out this hard-boiled setup, allowing you to take a hit while injured provided you time it just right.

We’re Gonna Live Forever

This build capitalizes on the extra skill checks gained from Deadline to reduce the token build-up time for Autodidact, giving you blazing fast healing times more consistently. The latter gives you slower healing times initially, but every successful skill check you get grants you a token, up to a maximum increase of 50 percent at five tokens. The former gives you more skill checks while you’re hurt.

Since you need to be injured to take advantage of Deadline, Dead Hard gives you the insurance you need, letting you take a hit while you’re hurt if you can time it right. We’re Gonna Live Forever allows you to counter the Killer slugging by granting Survivors you pick up from being downed the Endurance status effect. Autodidact will allow you to get them up that much faster.

Inner Strength

Nancy Wheeler

This build turns you into a totem-shredding, generator-completing machine. Boon: Illumination highlights all chests and generators on the map while you’re in its aura, as well as giving you a speed boost while cleansing and blessing totems while it’s active. It’s the latter trait we’re more interested in.

Combined with Counterforce, this allows you to destroy or bless totems rather quickly. The more you do so, the faster you get at it. Overzealous ensures that you’re not a one-trick pony, since you get a speed boost while working generators after dealing with a totem (as long as you don’t get hit).

If you do get hit,Nancy Wheeler’s Inner Strengthrounds the build out. With this Perk, cleansing a totem grants you a free heal if you can get into a locker and not get caught for 8-10 seconds.

Boon: Exponential

Jonah Vasquez

This is a build that turns a corner of the map into a relative safe zone. With thiscombination of Perks(which are all applied at once), you create a space where you’re harder to catch, harder to track, and if the Killer makes the mistake of slugging you, are given the enormous boon of a free getaway.

In addition to being a strong zone to get chased in, Boon: Illumination also allows you to get your bearings, since being in its aura gives you a view of every incomplete Generator and locked Chest in the game. There are, of course, limitations on the area affected by these boons, so it’s vital to have a plan in mind that can be implemented after activating it.
