While zombie-related media has always done pretty well in popular culture—ever sinceValvefurther reinforced that gamers delight in a bit of mindless—zombie-slaying fun with theLeft 4 Deadseries, many studios have followed suit ever since, andKilling Floor 2is no exception.

Although, with so many FPS, Survival zombie games out there, it’s understandable if you’ve burnt yourself out with this specific genre, and felt yourself constricted by such a saturated section of the market. Thankfully, mods are a great way to liven up the experience; hopefully, one or more of these mods will rekindle your zombie-bonking spirit.

8TF2 Heavy Voice For Fleshpound

Fleshpounds can be pretty scary, especially if you’re playing on some of the higher difficulties. If you want a mod that can lighten up some of that terror, or if you’re simply craving a different, potentially more recognizable audio cue, this audio mod is worth trying out.

Obviously, this mod is even better if you’re a fan of the Heavy class fromTeam Fortress 2, but if you’re not, Heavy’s deep, energetic voice with a Russian accent can grow on just about anyone. Heck, this mod might even make being on the receiving end of a “Fleshpound smackdown” more tolerable for you.

7Halo Mod - Weapons

While there are many ways to completely revamp a game, replacing all the weapons is certainly one of them. Although this mod can be a bit of a hassle to install at first, if you’re a big fan of theHalofranchise, any of that time spent will be well worth it in the end.

With weapons and their respective models from Halo,Halo 2,Halo 3, and even a few fromHalo: Reach, it won’t be hard for you to find your favorite zombie-slaying weapon of choice. If anything, it’s a trip looking at KF2 enemies through a battle rifle scope if you’ve never experienced that before.

6Controlled Difficulty - Eternal Edition

If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t mind a bit of tinkering and fine-tuning to achieve the specific experience or challenge you’re looking for, this might just be the mod you never knew you needed until now.

Some of the most notable changes you can enact with this mod include:

5Deagle - Vampire Hunter

After learning the ropes of any game, some people like to flaunt their expertise through flashy weapon skins. If you’re that kind of person and enjoy “dinking” zeds with the Deagle, why not treat yourself to this fancy “vampire hunter” edition weapon skin?

Once installed, this mod makes your Deagle look shinier than it’s ever been, as if it were made of pure silver, the bane of any classical, malevolent creature. Plus, there are plenty of intricate engravings printed all over the weapon, too, if you’re into that.

4Katana Black Golden

If you prefer getting up close and personal, slicing zeds with a bit of finesse, you’ll look even cooler than you already did after installing this mod. The only way to make a katana even more aesthetically pleasing, after all, is to give it:

3Synthwave Soundtrack

If you’ve heard enough of the base game soundtracks, this audio mod will add over 50 core soundtracks, five boss-specific songs, and almost 20 soundtracks for certain seasonal maps, all in the Synthwave genre. If you don’t like Synthwave to begin with, you should probably skip over this one.

Although, before you go running to your favorite music streaming service, it might be worth giving this mod a try if you’re on the fence about it, simply because the music will be more responsive to the maps you play on, the bosses you fight, and events that happen in-game.

2Friendly HUD

If you can’t stand the way the vanilla HUD displays player health bars and need better visibility or customization for playing online, this mod is a must, especially if you’re a generous soul who enjoys playing the Medic class most of the time.

Whether you want health bars bigger or smaller, on the right, left, or bottom side of your screen, or you just need a bright, flat color of your choosing to replace the original health bar color, this mod has all of that covered.

1Zedternal Reborn

Mods that completely overhaul a game can revive your perception of a game, giving you the dopamine you need to push you over the edge of nostalgia and dive straight into an enthralling gaming session that you haven’t felt since middle school.

This mod is about as good as you can get in terms of overhauls. With ten “mix and matchable” perk trees, over 100 skills to unlock, custom zeds with new buffs and wave mechanics, a custom upgrade system for your weapons, and Roguelite inspiration mixed in, there’s a ton of changes to explore.
