Summary

Weapons play a massive role in RPGs. Unless you’re playing a monk, most classes use some weapon to damage the enemies they face. Depending on the class, these weapons may have extra effects that cause poison or put targets to sleep. WhileSuper Mario RPGdoesn’t feature weapons this complex, it has various weapon types for each character with their own strengths and weaknesses.

The different timing for the game’s signature action commands on each weapon varies between them and thus will change which weapon types you’re able to use to their greatest extent. Each weapon has a power value for its strength, which can help to pick out the strongest.

Mario Standing On A Box In A Shop

60

Nimbus Land Shop

The War Fan is the third weapon that can be found for Princess Peach in Super Mario RPG. It can bebought in Nimbus Landand packs a punch. While the Princess doesn’t have the highest attack stat, the War Fan’s plus 60 for the attack stat makes up for her lack of physical strength with a well-timed action command.

Each weapon in Super Mario RPG has different timing for their action commands to deal more damage, and the War Fan has a relatively forgiving window to pull off this maneuver.

Mallow Calling Down Several Bolts Of Lightning

The Sticky Glove is another weapon that can be obtained in Nimbus Land. The fifth of Mallow’s weapons that players will encounter, the Sticky Glove, is relatively good. Adding a plus 60 to Mallow’s physical attack stat, you’ll get pretty far against enemies with the standard attack.

This is good since you’ll want to conserve FP with Mallow and save it to deal some heavy damage. The action command window on the Sticky Glove isn’t strict either, meaning you’ll typically be hitting enemies for maximum damage.

super mario rpg geno using geno boost on mario

The Nimbus Land Shop sells Mario his eighth overall weapon. The Mega Glove is the strongest of Mario’s glove-type weapons. As one of the primary physical attacking members of the party, it is crucial to outfit Mario with decent weapons.

The Mega Glove offers that with a plus 60 to his physical attack stat. Unfortunately, the action command isn’t as reliable for landing consistently. Regardless, it is still an effective weapon that will carry you through the boss account in Nimbus Land.

Geno Obtaining The Stella 023 From Booster

62

Booster Tower After Post-Game Batle

As a critical difference between the original Super Mario RPG and its remake, some weapons are exclusive tothe added post-game. One of these weapons is the Stella 023. This gun for Geno cannot be purchased or found like other weapons. Instead, it must be earned by defeating Booster in a rematch.

This reward for victory is well worth it as it offers Geno a weapon of substantial power. Boasting a plus 62 to his attack stat, this new gun helps to round out Geno’s kit, letting him deal consistent physical damage to enemies.

Super Mario RPG Remake - Mallow about to perform a triple move

70

Bowser’s Castle

The Sonic Cymbals are Mallow’s ultimate weapon and the strongest one he can receive before the post-game. They can be found in Bowser’s Castle during the Six-door challenge. To find them, you must get to one of the platforming doors. Only by completing the trial can you use them.

As a weapon, the cymbal type is Mallow’s best when it comes to action commands. The timing for it is lenient and gives Mallow the extra power boost he needs rightbefore the final boss.

Mario Standing In Front Of Six Numbered Doors

Despite not being Peach’s ultimate weapon, the Super Slap is found during the Six-door challenge in Bowser’s Castle. The Super Slap is similar to Peach’s Slap Glove weapon except for adding another hit upon landing an action command.

With a power boost of 70 points, the weapon allows Peach to deal relatively decent damage when she isn’t busy healing the party or rebuffing the enemy. It does have the quirk of dealing either seven extra or fewer points of damage.

Mario Swinging His Hammer Overhead

Weapon’s World

Mario is no stranger to hammers as weapons. It is tradition for Mario to utilize a hammer in place of a sword during his RPG adventures. He uses them in Paper Mario, and the Mario brothers use them in the Mario & Luigi series. Mario’s second-best weapon in this game is, no surprise, the Ultra Hammer.

It can be found in a treasure chest while exploring the game’s final area, Weapon’s World. Mario’s hammer weapon has an easy action command to land, and with a 70 attack power boost behind it, it’ll carry you through your fight with Smithy.

Mallow Remarking That The Sage Stick Belonged To His Grandfather

80

Belome Temple After Battle In Post Game

One of the weapons that is earned in Super Mario RPG’s post-game. The Sage Stick is Mallow’s ultimate weapon, obtained after defeating Belome in a rematch. The staff is revealed to have belonged to Mallow’s grandfather and thus has sentimental value.

The Sage Staff is more than just a family heirloom, adding 80 points to Mallow’s strength. Unfortunately, the one thing holding it back is that Mallow’s staff weapons have a mildly awkward action command window.

Peach Hitting An Enemy With Her Frying Pan

90

Moleville

Unlike most weapons in the game, the Frying Pan can’t be bought at a traditional store. Instead, you’ll pay a resident of Molevile in a sequence of expanding items until you can purchase the Frying Pan. The Frying Pan completely circumvents Peach’s poor attack stat.

Peach can deal damage on par with Bowser when landing an action command. This is due to the 90-point power boost to her offensive stat.

Super Mario RPG Mario Finding The Lazy Shell

Rose Town

One of the most infamous weapons in Super Mario RPG, the Lazy Shell, needs little introduction. This is Mario’s best weapon, boasting a 90-point power boost to his attack stat. This makes him the best attacker of the party. However, obtaining the Lazy Shell is a task.

It requires you to gather many items for a resident in Rose Town. Once you have received it, you’ll be ready for all the boss battles in this game, including the fights against the Super Boss Culex. The Lazy Shell has one of the easiest action command timings in the game, making it all around great.
