Summary
Bandai Namcomay have just accidentally revealed a new DLC fighter coming toTekken 8. According to fans, the official YouTube channel briefly made an unreleased trailer public. Going on the playlist now, we can see that there’s a private video uploaded to the channel, so this mysterious reveal could come very soon.
As spotted byResetErauser Musubi, a screenshot circulating online says that the trailer will reveal Josie is joining the roster as DLC. If accurate, this means she’s returning from her debut game,Tekken 7, albeit not on the main roster. It’s not clear when Bandai Namco plans to officially unveil this new character, whoever they end up being.
Reactions to the leak are mixed. Some would be pleased to see Josie return in the sequel, but others believe there are more deserving fighters for Tekken 8’s roster, especially in the first DLC slot. Then, there are some who doubt the legitimacy of the screenshot, feeling that Josie would be such a strange choice for the first DLC fighter that it must be fake.
Tekken producer Michael Murray has since weighed in, also saying that the screenshot is fake. He doesn’t comment on the existence of the private video, which anyone can see on the YouTube channel, so it’s clear that there will be an announcement of some kind. However, as some fans have pointed out, the team has also denied previous rumours and leaks about Tekken 8’s roster, which have later been revealed to be true.
In any case, we’ll just have to wait and see who this fighter could be. There are still some characters that have been confirmed but don’t have character trailers yet, so this video might just flesh out some fighters that we’ve already been aware of for some time.
In any case, we’re not far off Tekken 8’s launch at all now. The highly anticipated sequel is set to be with us on January 26, so just a little over two weeks from now. By then, we should know what this mystery trailer is all about. Imagine our disappointment if it just ends up being the launch trailer.
