TheSuper Mario RPGremake has basically removed the original game’s strange jiggle physics during the boss fight against Valentina, making her chest a lot less reactive to being attacked.

For the most part, the Switch version of Super Mario RPG is incredibly faithful to the original SNES classic, keeping in a bunch of surprising jokes and easter eggs like being able to find a presumably dirty hidden item in Peach’s roomanddesign flaws like Valentina’s shapeshifting parrot. Although most ofLegend of the Seven Starsis kept intact for the Switch release, there are a few notable differences between the two.

We’ve already discussed some of the more surprising changes like theremoval of peace signs for Mario, Mallow, and Peachand theerasure of Bruce Lee from Mario canon, but there’s one big change that probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone - Valentina’s strangely exaggerated jiggle physics.

Valentina is one of the major bosses of Super Mario RPG and one that’s encountered fairly late into the game as the party travels to Nimbus Land to find a Star Piece. Her design is already surprisingly mature for a Mario game, butwhat’s even more surprising is that the SNES version of the game had some rather exaggerated jiggle physicsthat were shoved in the player’s face whenever they attacked her during her boss battle.

It probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise, then, that the Nintendo Switch version of the game has significantly toned the jiggle physics down, almost to the point of outright removing them.As you can see in this video from YouTuber WolfSlash, attacking Valentina in the remake no longer causes her chest to shake like she’s been struck by an earthquake.

Some players think that the jiggle physics are still there, but if they are then they’ve been toned down to the point that you’d have to be staring as closely as possible to see them. I’m sure some of you were already doing that, but watching clips of how she reacted in the original game shows just how much the physics have been reduced.

Considering how much times have changed in the years since Super Mario RPG first launched, it’s not too much of a shock to see such a strangely adult moment in the game basically taken out, but it is a little surprising considering the remake kept in the infamous joke about Peach’s “XXX” item in her room.
