Just as promised, Bethesda has been supportingStarfieldconsistently ever since launch, doling out a number of updates designed to target the areas of the game which fans have the most issues with, as well as stay on top of any bugs that may crop up. A new patch was released just today in fact, one that focuses heavily on improving how Starfield looks while you’re exploring the Settled Systems.
For starters, a lot of these updates have improved the game’s lighting in a variety of locations, with fans having actuallynoticed the subtle changes over the past month. Small details such as water reflection, the eyes and skin of NPCs, shadows, and the lighting in the character generation menu hve all been improved, and new details such as planet rings causing shadow on the actual planets themselves have also been added.
Away from the visuals, Bethesda has also fixed and improved a number of gameplay mechanics, including a rather irritating bug that caused the Phased Time power to remain enabled for some players. Outside of that, a bunch of fixes for dodgy side quests and random encounters were also included in this latest patch, as were various other stability improvements and general tweaks. You can check out thefull list of fixes on the official Bethesda website, if you’re interested.
Unfortunately, the one thing that this patch doesn’t fix is the common empty ship glitch that fans have been frustrated by. Every now and again, it’s possible that you may encounter a ship in space and try to board only for there to be no one inside, and sometimes you may not be able to open a landing bay door due to the ship having no occupants. This is a bug, but Bethesda has stated in a Reddit thread discussing the patch that it plans to roll out a fix in the next patch in roughly six weeks.
Until then, we can sit and wait patiently for more news on Starfield’s Shattered SPace DLC which is supposedly releasing at some point this year. We’ve still yet to get a release date for it from Bethesda, with this Summer more than likely the time when we’ll find out more, given we already got to see Xbox’s big Developer Direct earlier this month.
