Silent Hill: Ascension’sdebut could have gone a lot better, and that’s putting it mildly. Not only has the game irritated fans by havinga voting system that favors the players with more cash, but its built-in chat feed, which was one of the highlights and key features of the intended experience, has already become an absolute cesspit, mostly down to the game allowing fans to input seemingly whatever they like.
Search for Silent Hill: Ascension on social media and you’ll findall kinds of cursed messages, most of which are circulating on Twitter as examples of how disastrous the game’s launch has been. If you’re able to think of a meme that’s had any kind of prevalence over the past few years, chances are it’s appeared in Silent Hill: Ascension.
It can make experiencing what little horror there is in the game pretty difficult, especially when you have dozens of fans on the side of the screen shouting about how much they want to bang Pyramid Head. To make matters worse, it appears as though Silent Hill: Ascension didn’t launch with a profanity filter, as the game has reportedly beenletting people drop the hard Rand other kind of slurs.
There doesn’t seem to be like, any moderation or obscenity filtering at all, so like open this thing and you will immediately be blasted with every slur known to the English language.
However, it’s also been reported that there was some kind of filter present in the game upon launch, though it seemed to be aimed at blocking words that could potentially relate to criticizing publisher Konami. The word “scam” apparently couldn’t be entered in the chat, as well as the name “Hideo Kojima”, as Konami was likely attempting to head off anyone calling for the return of PT or blasting the publisher for his dismissal.
All of this has combined to turn Silent Hill: Ascension’s debut into a complete disaster for publishers Konami and GenVid, becoming easily one of the worst titles to release in 2023. People have also recently started accusing the game of either hiding its rating on mobile, or buying 5-star reviews to try and combat the bad ones, though these claims are currently unconfirmed.
While the first Silent Hill game in over a decade might be a stinker, there are plenty of others in the pipeline to make up for it. Of course, we have the Silent Hill 2 Remake on the way, as well as Silent Hill r and a smaller scale title from indie developer No Code called Silent Hill Townfall. We don’t know how good these games will be, but they’ll have to be impressively bad to be worse than Ascension.
