PlayStation’s latest State of Playfinally gave us a good look at Silent Hill 2 Remake, showing off a variety of different puzzles and monsters that players will encounter in the titular town. Surprisingly, quite a lot of the game’s latest trailer was focused on combat, something that probably needed a bit of an overhaul due to how clunky it is in the original, but not exactly something that many fans would claim is an important part of the original experience.

Around half of the new trailer showcases James fighting off all kinds of horrible monsters, each one very faithfully brought up to modern day standards, but this combat heavy focus after months of radio silence on Konami and Bloober Team’s part has somewhat soured the opinions of a lot of fans. You’ll find plenty of fans voicing their complaints on social media, many of which criticize the game for appearing to be a lot more action-packed than the original game.

Most seem to have an issue with the fact that Silent Hill 2 Remake’s action scenes make it look a lot more like a Resident Evil game, pointing out that iteven shares a similar, over-the-shoulder camera angle.

You’ll find a lot more people justexpressing their overall disappointmentwith the new footage as a whole, while a couple of people are claiming that Bloober Team has probablymissed the pointof why the original was so loved by having a trailer focus on combat so much in the first place.

I think we can all agree that Bloober Team has a pretty tough task on its hands in remaking a game that is not only incredibly beloved, but is also immensely important to the industry and the horror genre as a whole. It’s possible that this new trailer wanted to showcase the combat, as it’s the thing that looks to have been changed the most, but some of those chaotic sections that have James hounded by a bunch of fast-moving monsters at once definitely have fans concerned.

Even if Silent Hill 2 Remake is an absolute masterpiece, Bloober Team definitely now has a mountain to climb to turn public opinion around, which probably isn’t something that you should be doing shortly after a trailer reveal. If Silent Hill: The Short Message, the other Silent Hill game that shadow dropped during the State of Play, turns out to be pretty good, then it probably takes the pressure off a little until Bloober Team can hopefully give us some footage that channels the Silent Hill 2 we all know and love.
