If you go looking for the Stone Lord inBaldur’s Gate 3, you’ll find yourself heading to the Counting House. The Counting House is where citizens of Baldur’s Gate can keep their valuables, gold, and other items. It’s basically a high-security storage facility.
When you enter the deepest room of the Counting House, you’ll encounter a battle between the Stone Lord and some members of the guild. After the battle, you’ll find out from Rakath that the cultists had escaped with the guild’s gold. you may help Rakath retrieve the gold, and he’ll reward you with some equipment and gold in return.

How To Complete The Return Rakath’s Gold Quest
You don’t actually need to retrieve the gold stolen from the guild back from the cult. You cancomplete Rakath’s quest by giving him the gold you already havein your inventory.
If you talk to Rakath after taking on the quest, you’ll be given the option to give him the entire amount of gold that was stolen. The amount that was stolen is ten thousand gold, and that’s a steep price to pull out from your own inventory. You can insteadpressure him to lower the price he’s asking for.
You’ll first need to choose the dialogue option “You lost innocent people’s money. The Guild ought to swallor some of that cost.” Then, you’ll be given the option to useIntimidation, History, or Persuasionto convince him to lower the amount he’s asking of you.
If you succeed in the check,Rakath will lower the amount he needs to five thousand.
If you don’t have that kind of gold on you, you canloot the vaults around the room freelywithout alerting the authorities. You’ll find a lot of gold hidden in them.
How To Retrieve Rakath’s Gold From The Cult
If you prefer not to pay out of your own pocket to complete the quest, you can chase after the cultists. If you inspect the large open vault in the room, you’ll find that there are muddy footprints on the floor. This indicates thatthe cultists may be in the sewers.
There are several ways to get into the sewers, but the quickest way to reach the escaped cultists and the Stone Lord isthrough a passage in the Lower City nearby Jannath’s Estate.
South of Jannath’s Estateis a tiny garden full of flowers. This is next to some tracks on the ground. Enter the garden, andyou’ll find a door along the wall. The door says “Keep Out”.
Go through the door, andyou’ll find yourself in a room called the “Gardener’s Basement”. Sitting in the two opposite ends of the room are somepressure plates. Ungroup your party, andhave a member of your party stand on one pressure plate each, then the wall will open up to reveal a doorway.
Go through the doorway, but watch out for theblast mine right by the doorway. There are also barrels of explosives lying around.
On the other end, you’ll seean ornate wooden hatch on the floor. Go through the hatch, and you’ll arrive in the sewers where the cultists and the Stone Lord have escaped to.
How To Take The Gold In The Sewers
Interestingly enough, you’ll also find a familiar face in the sewers,Roah Moonglow.
The cultists have given Roah the gold, and you’ll have to take it from her. If you can manage it,you should take it from her here before she escapes to the Lower City.
When the cutscene happens, try to hide the fact that you’re present. If you may sneak in and land an attack on Roah before the cultists find out you’re there, you’ll easily get the stolen gold.
You need to kill her and loot her body if you want to retrieve the gold during your encounter with the enemies here. Once you have the gold, you may return this to Rakath to complete the quest.
If you reach the cultists through the other end of the sewers, you’ll be on the other side of Roah’s escape route, and it’ll be a lot harder to stop her from escaping.
What You Get For Returning Rakath’s Gold
After you complete the quest, Rakath will reward you generously. He’ll give you gold back, regardless if you give him five thousand or ten thousand gold. So you shouldmake the attempt to convince him to lower his asking amount.
He’ll also give you a vault keyto a vault inside the large open vault at the end of the room.Open the vault labeled High Security Vault Number Ninewith the vault key, and you’ll find anElegant Studded Leather armourinside.
This is a very rare light armour with anarmour class of fourteen. It also gives the wearer theAmbusherfeature, which gives a+2 bonus to initiative rolls. The armour also gives an advantage on Stealth checks.
