Summary

2023 was a year packed with great games. So many that there are likely some you missed, especially if you prefer to pick up physical versions of games and you skipped over any titles that were digital-only. Until now,Sea of Starsfell into that category. A fantastic RPG from the creators of The Messenger. If Sea of Stars is a game you’ve been meaning to get to, but you’d prefer to own a physical copy, I have some very good news for you.

Sea of Stars is getting a physical edition, launching onPlayStation,Xbox, andNintendo Switch, and you can pre-order your copy right now. There is a catch, though. If you want to secure your physical version of Sea of Stars right now through the link in the box below, you’ll need to commit to the iam8bit exclusive edition. Likely a little more expensive than the regular retail edition, which will be available soon and releases on June 24, 2025, but you get some added extras.

Also included with a physical copy of the game with the iam8bit exclusive edition is a slipcase, poster, sticker sheets, digital soundtrack, and my personal favorite extra, a retro-style manual. You know, the sort of thing you’d read on the way home when buying new games as a kid that aren’t really a thing anymore. Perfect for a game like Sea of Stars which might have been released in 2023 but is inspired by RPGs of the past.

Sea of Stars

WHERE TO PLAY

Sea of Stars is an RPG with a hefty call back to the turn-based games of yesteryear, complete with stunning pixel-art aesthetic. Follow Valere and Zale, the Children of the Solstice, as they battle a terrifying alchemist and his monstrous creations.

For $44.99, a physical copy of Sea of Stars with everything that comes with the iam8bit exclusive edition seems pretty great. Unlike the retail edition though, the exclusive edition doesn’t currently have a firm release date. Just a vague Q2 2024 window, although it seems likely its release date will line up with the retail edition, or at least be released at roughly the same time.

Quite a few big games released in 2023 didn’t get physical versions, although it’s great to see some of those examples being rectified to kick off 2024. Not just Sea of Stars, butBaldur’s Gate 3 which will get a similar physical releasethat comes with other goodies this year. Still no indication thatAlan Wake 2will be getting a physical release, even afterTHQ Nordic offered to handle that side of thingswhen Remedy initially revealed it would be digital only.
