Pyromancy is one of the five schools of psychic ability that a Psyker can follow inWarhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.Pyromancer Sanctioned Psykers have one simple objective: make the world burn. By lighting enemies and allies alike on fire, Pyromancers can create devastating flames that sweep across the battlefield.

While you can opt to play it safe and alight foes from afar, playing a reckless, self-immolating Pyromancer is as fun as it is powerful. Below, we’ll take a look at the best build for a melee-based Pyromancer Sanctioned Psyker, including the best Homeworld, Archetype, and characteristics to choose.

Homeworld

Forge World

Lore-wise, Pyromancy goes hand in hand with the undying flames of aForge World, and the mechanical bonuses provided by this homeworld are essential for our build.Subskin Armourprovidesarmor based on Toughness, which we will be increasing steadily as we level, allowing us towithstand more attacksand reduce the damage of our own burning.

Fires of the ForgeandSteel of the Forgeare two great Talents that you can pick up later. Fires of the Forge drasticallyreduces the damage you take from burning, allowing you to light yourself on fire without worry, while Steel of the Forge grants an additionalMovement Point, onedeflection, andimmunity to being knocked pronewhile you are equipped withHeavy Armour.

you may select theHeavy Armour ProficiencyTalent early on, allowing you to take full advantage ofSteel of the Forgeas soon as possible.

Archetype

Warrior / Vanguard

Warrior is the perfect Archetype for this melee-focused Pyromancy build, granting tons of useful Talents and stats.Endureis a great Talent that grants youtemporary woundswhile alsoreducing the damage you takeuntil the next round equal to your Toughness bonus.

The Warrior Archetype is fairly straightforward to build around. Plus, it has a very strong Ultimate,Daring Breach. This skillrefills your AP and MP, and makes it so yourattacks don’t consume your MP, meaning you cancontinue to move and attackas long as you have MP and AP. With Daring Breach, you canchain kills togetherand set up your burning effects for later.

At level 16, you can select theVanguard Tier Two Archetype, which grants bonuses similar to the ones available in the Warrior Archetype tree. As you level through the Vanguard tree, you’ll mainly want to grabnew Pyromancy abilitiesand boost up yourfour core characteristics, which we’ll take a look at next.

Characteristics

Willpower, Toughness, Strength, and Weapon Skill

Willpoweris one of themost important statsfor any Sanctioned Psyker, as itincreases the damage of your psychic abilities. Burning is no different, scaling its damage based on your Willpower stat.

After Willpower,Toughnessis vitally important. This stat willincrease your overall survivabilityby granting more totalhealthandarmor. Strength also increases your survivability by allowing you to wearHeavy Armourmore comfortably.

Finally,Weapon Skillis imperative when dealing melee damage, and should be increased as often as you can. Luckily, Strength, Toughness, and Weapon Skill are all found within the Warrior, making this build relatively easy to achieve as you progress.

By increasing your Strength, you’ll also increase your Athletics, while raising your Toughness will upgrade yourCarousestat. Carouse is part of the reason why Toughness is so strong for this build, as this stat willreduce the damage you take from being on fire, among other things.
