PlayStationfinally confirmed the rumors about a newPS5model were true last month,unveiling a newer, slimmer model of its latest console. That model will be available to buy later this week, almost exactly three years after the launch of the original console, with a disc version and a digital version to choose from. It seems some retailers are preparing for a similar onslaught to the one that made PS5s very hard to find in 2020 as at least one listing for the console is already ready to go.

Before you rush to the link below to get your order in before everyone else, even though the store page exists, you may’t actually place an order yet. Where the add to cart button will eventually be on Friday is currently just a grey “coming soon”. It does reveal how much the bundle will cost though, retailing for $499.99.
PS5 Slim Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Bundle
PlayStation’s newer, slimmer model is available with or without a disc drive, and also bundled with various games. This particular bundle includes a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
That’s actually a pretty good price if it’s the one Best Buy is going to stick with on release day as it effectively means you’ll be getting Modern Warfare 3 free with the console. PlayStation has already confirmed the disc drive version of its new PS5 will cost $499.99, and that the digital-only one will be $449.99. You will also be able to buy a disc drive separately for $79.99 should you buy the digital edition and decide you want to use physical media at a later date.
The disc drive has caused a little bit of a stir since PlayStation announced details about it, and it was the packaging for the Modern Warfare 3 bundle that kicked off that controversy. The fine print on the box revealed the disc drive will need an internet connection should its owner actually want to use it. Not a permanent one, but it will need to interact with a server when first used so it can function. That has some asking what will happen to disc drives used in the future when the server it needs to interact with has potentially been shut down.
Even though there will likely be an influx of people picking up the new PS5 models later this week, we won’t see anything close to the same shortages we experienced with the PS5. The pandemic is over, there are no component shortages, and this isn’t a new console, just an updated version of the one that is now readily available. It might be hard to find before the holidays, but once we get into 2024, if you want a slimmer PS5, you’ll probably be able to find one pretty easily.
