Pokemon Scarlet & Violetis pretty much done now in terms of DLC, and it all culminated in a prologue that was essentially one big Mystery Gift event. By receiving the Mythical Pecha Berry Gift and taking it to Moussui Town, we all got to experience a final ending to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that allowed us to capturea new Mythical Pokemon in Pecharunt.

It was definitely the most impressive Mystery Gift event we’ve had from Game Freak over the years, and it’s led to calls from Pokemon fans for Game Freak to start bringing back the more in-depth Mystery Gift events we had in the earlier games. Specifically, Reddit user -et37 hopes that the Pecharunt event is “a sign of change” at Game Freak, and posts pictures of some of the more lackluster events that see Legendary and Mythical Pokemon simply handed to the player.

If you remember playing some of the earlierPokemongames and were lucky enough to live in either the US or Japan, you’ll probably remember Mystery Gift events that allowed you to fight and catch Pokemon like Darkrai, Deoxys, Victini, and Celebi. These were usually introduced with some interesting lore or story beats that gave us a reason for capturing them, especially the latter, which had players go back in time to stop Giovanni’s return.

I think it’s more special since there were cutscenes and new maps for them. They felt like the world expanded just a little to make it possible to find these Pokemon. Now it’s just getting a legendary FedEx.

However, as many people point out in the Reddit post’s replies, they were limited-time and only available to certain people. Thankfully, Pokemon has made many improvements in that regard over the years, but sometimes at the expense of the event itself. With the release of the Pecharunt event, fans want more in-depth Mystery Gift events “similar to the old mythical events” now that Game Freak isn’t locking content to certain territories.

Whether or not Game Freak actually listens remains to be seen, though this is the first time in a while we don’t know what the future of Pokemon has in store. Fans seem convinced thata Legends-style remake of Pokemon Black is on the cards, following the success ofPokemon Legends: Arceus, but those are just rumors at the moment. Chances are we’ll get some Pokemon news at some point this year, witha potential Nintendo Switch 2 just on the horizon.
