There are many clashes between the invasive humans and the native Na’vi inAvatar: Frontiers Of Pandora. One of the most controversial aspects is the existence of avatars–Na’vi bodies that humans can link to and manipulate like a second skin. While the humans see this as an invaluable tool and grow to love their new forms, the native Na’vi see it as an insult and a threat.

After learning the truth about what happened to the Sarentu clan, you are faced with a choice about how to proceed going forward. Will you accept the past and move on with your allies or will you hold a grudge and deny forgiveness?

Approaching Ri’nela outside the hideout Avatar Frontiers of Pandora

How To Unlock The Penance Quest

After learning the truth and walking through Alma’s avatar’s memories through Eywa, Ri’nela takes the avatar body to bury it. After this point, you canunlock the Penance quest. You’ll radio Alma that you’re comingback to the hideout, and she’ll be waiting.

For us, this quest triggered upon landing at Ally’s Overlook during the quest A Distant Storm.

Alma apologizing to Ri’nela Avatar Frontiers of Pandora

To find where Ri’nela and Alma buried the avatar, you’ll want togo to the main entranceto the Resistance hideout in the Clouded Forest. If you’re facing the entrance, you’ll see them to the left. If you’re coming from inside the hideout, they’re on your right.

When you approach, you’ll hear aheated discussion between Alma and Ri’nelaover the use of the avatar body. Alma feels like it washer true selfand will miss it while Ri’nela reminds her that shewill never be Na’vi.

Should You Choose To Confront Or Accept The Past?

You’re left with a choice to make: do youaccept the pastand forgive Alma or do youreject the pastand hold it against her moving forward? The decision is entirely yours to make.

The decision doesn’t seem to have any long-term consequences, though the dialogue changes depending on your choice.

If youchoose to confront the past, you take after Ri’nela and Nor and cling to your feelings of betrayal. Alma was supposed to be a mentor and a protector, but learning the truth tarnished that belief. The past cannot be forgotten and it should not be wiped away.

If youchoose to accept the past, you move forward without grudges. It doesn’t erase the past, but it does free you from the burden of carrying it. The past is dead, and a new future lies forward. Holding onto the past won’t change the future.

There is no reward for this quest either way. You are free to choose whichever choice feels best to you and your experience.
