Summary

Epic Gamesproved it still knows whatFortniteplayers want, and is still very aware of how to pull new players in, by launching three new modes earlier this month. Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. WhileLegois the mode receiving the most attention, Festival has caused a stir for effectively being the rebirth ofRock Bandunder Fortnite’s roof. It’s even made by the same studio, the now Epic-owned Harmonix. The only caveat is you can’t use instruments, but Epic has already promised that will change in the future.

Time to dust off the old peripherals if you still have them collecting dust somewhere. If you don’t, there will likely be a chance to buy some shiny new ones. Controller makers PDP have shared a teaser suggesting it is working on a new guitar controller (thanks,VGC). The company posted an image of a guitar silhouette along with some emojis suggesting the guitar will be compatible with Fortnite Festival.

“Rock On this January,” is the caption that accompanies the image, so not long to wait to find out what exactly it is PDP is working on. The same company that made peripherals for Rock Band 4, PDP has previous, so you can rest assured the new guitars - if that is what is being teased here, and that seems very likely - are in good hands. As for whether they will be in good hands once you buy one and put your oldGuitar Heroskills to the test, that’ll be on you.

If you’ve been eyeing up used Rock Band and Guitar Hero peripherals in preparation for Epic making them compatible with Fortnite Festival, I’d hold off until PDP officially reveals what it’s cooking up. Not only were they hard to find when Rock Band was at its peak, but the resale price of them has continued to rise over the years. Take it from someone who has been trying to find a reasonably-priced set of Rock Band drums for the better part of a decade, it’s not worth it.

PDP appears to be teasing guitar controllers only for now, but if Fortnite Festival continues to grow in popularity, perhaps we’ll be able to get the whole band back together in 2024. There’s also the hope thatXbox will revive the Guitar Hero seriesnow theActivision Blizzardacquisition is complete. If you’re looking for quirky new controllers before the end of the year, PDP also makescontrollers with Sonic characters and Pikmin trapped inside, some of which are featured inour best Nintendo Switch controllers guide.
