The video game release wheel has started turning again after a break for the holidays, but don’t feel pressured to forget everything that has come before and shift your focus to new releases just yet. As good a year as 2024 is shaping up to be, there’s very little chance it’ll be as busy as 2023. Take a little time to play some older games before you move on, and do it for considerably less by picking up some deals throughNintendo’s January Jump-start Sale.

Nintendo’s January sale on digitalSwitchgames is live right now and you’ve got until 11:59 pm PT on June 28, 2025, to take advantage of the reductions despite the January label. There are some big titles included in the sale with hefty reductions too, the headliner beingAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Selling more than 40 million copies, New Horizons is one of many titles Nintendo rarely feels the need to put on sale, so make the most of the price cut while you’re able to.

A digital copy of New Horizons is on sale for $41.99, down from $59.99. You can add a little extra to your Animal Crossing experience for less if you’d like to and grab the base game bundled with its Happy Home Paradise DLC. Usually $85 for both, at 30 percent off you can currently get the bundle for less than you’d normally pay for the game all by itself. Or if you already own a copy of New Horizons you can grab the DLC by itself in the sale.

WHERE TO PLAY

The long-running series of cozy social simulators comes to Nintendo Switch with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Build and shape your ideal island paradise, then draw from a pool of over 400 villagers to create a community others can be envious of. With real-time events and plenty of content updates, your new life awaits.

There are a couple of the Switch’s strongerPokemongames available for 30 percent off in the January Jump-start Sale too, even if they weren’t games that performed quite as well on the sales front.New Pokemon Snap, a title I will forever argue is the best Pokemon game on Switch, is also down to $41.99 from $59.99. Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX has been afforded to the same reduction, a criminally underrated Pokemon game that will perfectly fill the gap between now and this year’s Pokemon Day.

New Pokémon Snap

A sequel to the Nintendo 64 classic, New Pokemon Snap is a form of safari game in which your job is to take photos of over 200 Pokemon across six different islands and over 20 courses. You are judged on your photos, which you’re able to edit and share online.

There’s a lot more than just Animal Crossing and Pokemon games available in Nintendo’s sale.Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a massive 70 percent off, bringing its price down to just $17.99, andSea of Stars is 20 percent offdespite only launching in 2023. Do bear in mind before you dive in and grab a digital copy on Switch thatthere’s a physical edition coming in 2024that’s already available to pre-order.
