Christmas is just around the corner, and while I’m wrapping the last of my presents and ensuring we have far too much food in the house, I can’t help but think back to writing Christmas wishlists to Santa Claus when I was a child. I can’t do that now. I attempt to send my husband some subtle (and some not-so-subtle) hints throughout the year, but he’s not that savvy.

I can’t write a real Christmas list, but I can write aFinal Fantasy 14Starlight Celebration list, at least. While I don’t believe some jolly Roegadyn is going to squeeze down our Free Company house chimney and give us lots of goodies, FF14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida is the nearest equivalent we have to the big guy. He’s also the only one who could make my wishlist come true.

Santa baby, just slip cross-region Data Center Travel under the tree for me

Been an awful good girl

Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

I love the Data Center Travel system in Final Fantasy 14 as it’s great to visit other servers to hang out with friends and visit their houses, but it also opens up a whole new range of community events to attend. The downside is that DCT is region-locked, so as a European player, I can visit the Chaos and Light Logical Data Centers… but not the North American, Japanese, or Oceania Data Centers.

The FF14 team said they intended to dofull travel between all regions in the future, but it’s been so long I’m doubting my memory of that. I’d love to be able to travel to all the different Data Centers with my main character, rather than having to level up alt characters or purchase level and story skips to access specific areas. Visiting community events with an alt character just isn’t the same — give us the chance to take our mains on tour.

Santa baby, a permanent Fall Guys event too, with new content to do,

I’ll wait up for you, dear

I wrote about this only last week, but as December comes to a close and we prepare ourselves to say goodbye to the Fall Guys collaboration event for now, it’s made me realise how much more fun it would be if this were a permanent fixture in the game. Having it accessible all year round but with content and courses that get changed periodically would be much better.

Think of all the community events I’ve missed

As they couldn’t fit as many in the FC house as they wished

I know I’m not the only one who wants the minimum number of characters allowed in a Free Company house at any one time to be increased. There’s always the max number, but then the real and lower max number players adhere to because otherwise, you start getting characters popping in and out because there are too many bodies. There are many amazing shows, theatre productions, dance performances, and more throughout the FF14 community, but they sell out quickly. People queue for hours to get in, too!

I realise that this wish, much like the last two, would require some hefty tech upgrades and overhauls in the background, but not all wishes have to be easy.

Santa baby, I want Blitzball and really, that’s not a lot

Been an angel all year

We were promised a new minigame for the Gold Saucer that was the size of Mahjong, but it’s still yet to arrive. I know this is the obvious pick, but how incredible would it be to have Blitzball in FF14?

You could have NPC teams and be able to recruit new players from all over the game, with certain NPCs only becoming available after progressing specific content, much like Triple Triad. You could even compete against other players and organise tournaments. I would lose hours to this if my Christmas wish was granted.

Santa honey, one little thing I really need

The deed to an Old Sharlayan house

Let’s face it: we can never have enough new houses in FF14. A new residential district in Old Sharlayan would be a great choice, though I’m well aware there will probably be a more interesting contender in the Dawntrail expansion when that arrives. Either way, a new residential district, please!

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with added inventory slots

But not just some FC company storage box

Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Alright, this one is a little more frivolous and solely on me. If I kept my inventory tidier, then this wouldn’t be an issue. I am such a hoarder and always run out of inventory slots. I know we had the Chocobo Saddlebag added, but aren’t we due an upgrade on that? Think of all the Gobbiebag quests from Final Fantasy 11. Players always want more.

I know we have retainers and FC company chests, but I want more inventory on my character rather than having to run somewhere specific to get my goods. I’m too lazy for that.

Come and improve my Warrior of Light

With some new roles where they don’t have to fight

I really do believe in you

Let’s see if you believe in me

We keep getting new roles, but they’re all combat jobs. I understand adding a new crafter or gatherer role could upset the economy, and introducing a new element could then mean re-writing all the other recipes to date, but surely there’s a way to introduce a new role that doesn’t necessarily affect the others? A Disciple of the Hand or Land, maybe?

A craft that wouldn’t have to be backdated for the rest of the game because it’s some ingredient or item that’s used another way. Maybe a bug catcher, and you just submit your bugs for points to earn items, rather than the traditional sense of gathering. There could be particularly rare insects that spawn and different beasties for different locations, similar to fishing. I just want a fresh new role to check out for those days when you don’t want to fight, and you just want to gather in peace.

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing

More hours in the day, I don’t mean the Eorzean day

Hurry down the chimney tonight

Hurry, tonight

Yoshi-P can’t fix this for me, but I wish there were more hours in the day to squeeze more FF14 game time in!
