Mortal Kombat 1players call onNetherRealmto add crossplay, as a recent poll shows it to be the most requested feature by far. This comes after series co-creator and current NetherRealm lead Ed Boon asks fans to pick from a range of features, with crossplay being the clear winner here.
This strongly suggests that crossplay could be with us soon, as it was teased before the game’s launch back in September. At this time, it was said that thedevs were “hard at work” getting crossplay to function, and that it would be added post-launch. Well, we’re certainly post-launch now, and on the cusp of our first wave of DLC, so there would be no better time to finally get the feature working in online play.
In a Twitter poll, Boon says that the team is currently working on “additional online features for MK1”. He doesn’t have a timeframe for when each one will be added to the game, but he asks fans which one they want to see the most, perhaps implying that this could have some sway over the release schedule.
Well, if that’s the case, then we should certainly be seeing crossplay implemented first. At the time of writing, it’s in the lead with 75.5 percent of the vote. In second place, there’s a WiFi filter at 10.6 percent. This would allow fans playing online with a wired connection to avoid those relying on WiFi, as they are more prone to lag or cutting out entirely. Since a fair amount of players are interested in this - and it was included in the poll in the first place - it’s safe to assume that it’s in the works alongside crossplay. Sorry, WiFi users.
Issues like the lack of crossplay at launch led some fans to say thatMortal Kombat 1 felt “rushed”. It’s easy to see why so many felt this way when you look at other issues, likeglitchy combatandachievements that were impossible to achieve.
Of course, we don’t know when any of these features will be added, but it’s clear that the fanbase wants crossplay to be prioritized over anything else. Since Boon took the time to ask fans, we can expect this to be added first, or at least as soon as it’s ready to go live in the game - whenever that is.
First up though,Omni-Man will join the roster on November 9. He is part of the first DLC pack, which will add six fighters in total, and set you back £34.99.
