Mortal Kombat 1just added JK Simmons' Omni-Man to the game so players are turning him into J. Jonah Jameson fromSpider-Manand making Yuri Lowenthal’s Smoke look like Spider-Man while making the two duke it out.

Ever since Mortal Kombat 1 launched, the modding community has taken a shine to it. We’ve seen tons of cool mods come to the game over the past few months, including ones that give the game a first-person mode, some that make Kameos playable, and even one that restores a tag-team mode that was seemingly cut during development. As great as all those are, who can say no to a classic character-swapping mod?

We’ve seen a fair amount of these, too, like Freddy Fazbear taking over Cyrax’s role as a Kameo, but the recent release of Omni-Man has inspired some of the best ones yet. As I’m sure you know, Omni-Man in the Invincible show is portrayed by legendary actor JK Simmons, whose most recognisable role is J Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. With that in mind, modder Beyonderz has created a skin swap for Omni-Man that turns him into everyone’s favourite Daily Bugle boss.

Considering Omni-Man already looks like a beefed-up J. Jonah Jameson and has the same voice and moustache, it’s a mod that works shockingly well for making it look like the Spider-Man character suddenly learned how to fly and crush people’s skulls. That’s not all that BeyonderZ has done, however, as he’s taken the Spider-Man in-joke one step further.

NetherRealm is also very aware of JK Simmons' previous role as J. Jonah Jameson,as there are actually a few references to Spider-Man that can be found in Omni-Man’s pre-fight banter.

JK Simmons isn’t the only voice actor on the Mortal Kombat 1 roster who has connections to Spider-Man. Yuri Lowenthal, who voices MK1’s version of Smoke, also voices the wall-crawler in Insomniac Games' PlayStation series of Spider-Man games, which means that it was a no-brainer forBeyonderZ to make a mod that gives him that game’s Advanced Suit.

With these two mods combined, Spider-Man and Mortal Kombat fans can unite to see what a superpowered J. Jonah Jameson would do against a Spider-Man who has suddenly gained the ability to turn into smoke. That’s exactly what some fans have been doing, like YouTuber deathmule, who compiled a video of Spider-Man killing JJJ with every character’s fatalities. At least the dialogue between Smoke and Omni-Man is pretty accurate to what the two would say to each other in that otherworld scenario…
