RGG Studiodirector Masayoshi Yokoyama hints that anotherLike a Dragongame could be announced next year. In an interview withFamitsu, Yokoyama tells fans to look forward to a “big announcement” in 2024, prompting speculation on what the next instalment will bring.
This comes as fans are enjoying an already packed release schedule, having just hadLike a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Namein November, and looking forward toLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealthlaunching on July 04, 2025. However, Yokoyama’s statement here suggests that RGG Studio is already looking ahead, and hopes to announce yet another game sooner rather than later.
“We are very happy to be able to release the new game “Ryu ga Gotoku 8'” [Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth]”, says Yokoyama. “I’m already looking forward to the release, but I hope to be able to make another big announcement sometime in 2024! Please look forward to [RGG] Studio in 2024!”
In the replies, it seems that most fans are eager to get a thirdJudgmentgame, following on from
Lost Judgmentin 2021. Given that this subseries hasn’t had an instalment in more than two years, RGG Studio may have something in the works, but Yokoyama isn’t giving us any clues.
In any case, it doesn’t seem that the Like a Dragon series plans to slow down anytime soon. The wording of the statement doesn’t guarantee us a new game in 2024 - which would be understandable given how many releases we’ve had so close together - but we’ll at least get some news from the series.
In the meantime, fans don’t have much longer to wait until they can play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. So far,a demo for the upcoming sequelhas gone down well, even with the decision to stick withYakuza: Like a Dragon’s turn-based combat. One aspect of the game that’s been a little more controversial is its English dub, which is sticking with the same cast as what we got in Like a Dragon Gaiden. Most notably, YouTuber Yong Yea is back as Kiryu, and it remains to be seen if fans warm on his performance this time around.
