It’s known thatBethesdagames contain expansive worlds with lots of areas to explore and plenty of NPCs to interact with. Games likeSkyrimare iconic and have captured the hearts of many players over the years, but how does a game likeStarfieldcompare?
Skyrim’s section of Tamriel is large, and there are plenty of cities, towns, and caves to explore. However, Starfield promises an even more massive adventure to embark on. From one continent in Tamriel to a galaxy of planets across the star system, the real question is how much bigger is Starfield than Skyrim? We have the answer.

How Big Is Skyrim?
When Skyrim originally released in 2011, the map was considered to be huge. Itcovered all of the region, from Solitude to Riften, and you could evenexplore more with the expansion to Solsthiem. However, regarding the base game, there areabout 14-15 square milesof space to explore.
Solsthiem is technically a part of Morrowind, though it is included in the game Skyrim.

Despite how big the map feels at first, it takes aboutthree hours to walk from one end to the other(if you don’t get distracted and wander off). The world ofThe Elder Scrollscontinues to get bigger with each release, but none of it compares to the sheer size of Starfield.
How Big Is Starfield?
At a glance,Starfield is massive. While Skyrim covers one portion of a single continent in Nirn,Starfield spans across numerous solar systemswithin the Milkyway galaxy.
Starfield usesprocedural generation to create the expansive environmentsyou get to explore. There are over a hundred star systems to visit, some with extreme environments, and more than one thousand moons and planets included.
While you may’t land on every one of them, you can still scan them.
Out of all the scannable planets and moons, roughly half can actually be landed on. They are filled with resources, abandoned facilities, landmarks, and more. You canset up outpostsand watch the sunrise and sunset from your favorite planet, or planets, making Starfieldone of the most expansive games you can playin terms of size.
However, it’s not as large as other games, such asNo Man’s Sky, which has a near limitless number of planets to explore. Still,Starfield is a great deal larger than Skyrim, as it can take youhours to travel cross a single planet on foot, let alone a galaxy full of them.
Despite how large Starfield seems, the number of moons and planets is fixed.
If you’re looking fora game with plenty of space to explore, but not an overwhelming amount that continues to expand, then Starfield is what you’re looking for. There aredozens of settlements to visit and biomes to explore, so suit up and take off for adventure.
