Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Indiana Jones will be played by Troy Baker inIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was just showcased for the first time at 2024’s firstXboxDeveloper Direct.
After years of speculation, Xbox has finally given us our first look at MachineGames' Indiana Jones game, which has been officially revealed as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The gameplay deep dive answered a ton of theories about the title, like confirming that it’s first-person with a mixture of third-person segmentsand taking place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, but it also introduced a big new question - who is playing Indiana Jones?
As soon as Indiana Jones started talking in the gameplay reveal, the live chat lit up with fans trying to guess who was playing the titular character as, while it sounded close, it was clearly not Harrison Ford.Although Xbox and MachineGames didn’t reveal the answer during the Developer Direct, it was a very short-lived mystery asEntertainment Weekly has already confirmed who is donning the fedora and whip.
Right after the gameplay trailer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle debuted during the presentation, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Troy Baker, best known for playing Joel Miller in The Last of Us and Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, will be taking up the mantle from Harrison Ford.
Beyond revealing that Baker is going to be playing Indy, the Entertainment Weekly article also gives us a few more details about the game’s plot and development. The idea for The Great Circle originated from executive producer Todd Howard, and takes place one year after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
“He really brings forward that charm and sense of humor in such a good way. He’s also a very big Indiana Jones fan, which is super cool. So he’s also very invested in the game.”
Lead game designer Jerk Gustafsson notes that one of the plot beats for the game is that Indy is “adrift” and “sort of lost again” after separating from Maron following the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It also reveals that the story begins after Indiana Jones falls asleep at his desk and is awoken by a “colossal man” named Locus, who is played by Tony Todd, the voice of Venom in Spider-Man 2. From there, Indy heads to the Vatican, which is where the globetrotting adventure really begins.
