There are plenty of ways to diversify your farming portfolio inCoral Island, but one of the best ways to beef up your crop yield and improve your overall farming skills is to visit Ling’s Lab. Ling and her trusty research assistant, Surya, have a few helpful upgrades available for you and your farm.
Ling’s Lab lets you upgrade your produce quality, process fossil nodes, and develop tons of useful equipment for your farm. As you progress through the seasons and your farming skills improve, lab upgrades are a great way to get the most out of your farm without tending your plants and livestock all day.
Ling’s Lab
Ling’s lab is located at the top of Starlet Town to the left of Socket and Pan and directly across from the Sacred Tree site. you may find both Ling and Surya hanging out at the lab on most days. The lab’s hours areSunday through Thursday from 8:00 to 17:00 and Friday from 8:00 to 15:00. The lab isclosed on Saturdays.
How To Upgrade Produce Quality
One of the first things you should do in Coral Island isupgrade your produce quality as soon as possible. While it may seem like a lot of money upfront, sinking a few thousand coral coins into these upgrades is a worthwhile investment.
Upgrading your produce quality at the lab helpsincrease the chances that you’ll harvest better produce and animal productson your farm, and better quality crops means a better payday.
All Produce Quality Upgrades taketwo days to process. You don’t need to return to Ling’s lab to accept an upgrade like you do with upgraded tools. After the two days have passed, the upgraded produce category will automatically update with no return necessary!
How To Develop Equipment
Developing your farming equipment is just as beneficial as upgrading your produce quality. While upgrading the quality of your produce helps increase the star quality of your crops and their overall sell price, farming machinery canhelp you farm those newly upgraded crops more efficiently.
When you come to Ling for equipment upgrades, you aren’t just buying a single item. Bringing the required payment and materials to Ling will reward you with one ofthe equipment items you chose, as well as a blueprintfor how to craft that item from home in the future. This means that you will only need to come to Ling once when buying and learning an upgrade.
For example, if you buy the Temperature Machine from her, you will go home with one Temperature Machine and the recipe for how to craft it without having to return to the lab.
You canonly purchase each upgrade once. Once an upgrade is purchased, it will be grayed out in the Lab menu.
Sprinkler Attachments
Sprinkler Attachments are machines that function automatically when attached to a sprinkler on your farm. They can attach tosprinklers of any size, and willfunction on their ownonce stocked. To use a Sprinkler Attachment, insert the proper item into the attachment and sit back and watch it work. It’s that easy!
For example, if you want to plant seeds on your farm without stooping to plant each individual seed, you can use theAuto Seeder to seed the plot for you. Simply insert the seed you want planted, and the attachment will do the work for you.
The concept is the same for the Auto Fertilizer. The Auto Harvester will instead harvest your crops for you.

Barn And Coop Equipment
Ling also provides machines for use in your barns and coops. These machinesimprove the quality of life for your livestock, and in turn improve the size, quality, and production efficiencyof your animal products.
TheTemperature Machine regulates the temperature of your animal buildingsso that your animals don’t overheat or freeze during summer and winter. The Auto Feeder eliminates the need for daily manual feedings, and the Auto Petter similarly pets your animals for you so that you don’t have to keep visiting them every morning. Finally, the Auto Collector will collect your animal products for you.

After purchasing a recipe from Ling, thematerial costs to craft that item are significantly reduced. Crafting the item from home will be much less resource-intensive than it was to purchase it the first time around.
Computer Components
The Sturdy Computer is a great way to streamline your shopping and exploring experiences. For one thing, the Sturdy Computer lets youshop the catalogs of almost every storeon the island.
Purchasing items from the computer also allows you todisregard the hours of in-person shops. So if you want seeds when Sam’s is closed, you can always head to the computer and order them. There isa cap of 20 items per order, but all of your ordered items will be delivered to you immediately after ordering them.
The Sturdy Computer will also let youforecast the locations and times of day when forageables, insects, and fishcan be found. You must buy the forecasting component for each type of forecast to be able to use that category on the computer.
For example, to predict where insects are located, you will need to have the Catching Component.
Additional Equipment
Lastly, you can also buy a few miscellaneous items from Ling’s lab: theAuto Trash Collector, Ultimate Scarecrow, and Automation Chest.
The Auto Trash Collector can be placed on the ocean floor and willautomatically collect trash for you, and the Ultimate Scarecrow willprotect a 19 by 19 tile radiusof crops from pesky crows.
The Automation Chest functions in a more complicated way but is one of the most beneficial pieces of equipment you can buy from the lab. The Automation Chest can be placed to the right or left of any machine in order topush or pull items into or out of that machine.
For example, if you put the automation chest to the left of a preserve jar, and filled the chest with cranberries, it would continue to fill the jar with cranberries. Placing another automation chest to the right of the jar will automatically drop the finished preserves into the chest.
