The Dark Urge allows for unique dialogue and actions inBaldur’s Gate 3, though not all of them go as planned. As you fight against your dark desires, you’ll have to make tough choices that could cause you to face the mind flayer invasion alone. Thankfully, you’ll find plenty of allies to support you in your journey.
What happens when the Dark Urge threatens to take your closest allies away? Finding friendship and developing a romance are all part of the experience as you venture across the Sword Coast, but one wrong move could end your tale in a gruesome tragedy.
How To Unlock The Slayer Form
You’ll initially beoffered the Slayer Formby Sceleritas Fel as a reward forkilling the Moonmaiden, Isobel. If you go through with it, you’ll get the reward and skip this entirely, as your bloodlust has been sated.
If youchoose not to kill Isobel, ormiss the opportunityto bycompleting the Gauntlet of Shar, then Sceleritas Fel will come towarn you about your dearest companion’s demise.
While you have the opportunity to tell your butler that he’s mistaken about your feelings for your companion, itdoes not affect the event.
He warns you that your Dark Urge is insatiable and will take over when you go to sleep,killing whoever you’re in a relationship with. You can try to stop it, but he urges you to embrace it.
This seems toonly apply to origin romancesand not one-offs like Minthara or Halsin.
Should You Kill Your Lover?
Killing your romantic partner seems absurd, but there are a few reasons to do it. For one,you’ll earn to coveted Slayer Form, which can beuseful in combatand during Act 3’s climax.
Additionally, if you’re going for an evil playthrough, this is an excellent opportunity to exercise cruelty. Of course,you won’t be able to get away with itso easily.
Consequences For Killing Them
When you awaken the next morning after giving in to your Dark Urge,your remaining companions will confront you. It’s not the first time you’ve killed in camp, but they’re going to make sure it’s the last.
You can try totell them it was self-defense, but it’s an obvious lie. You’ll need topass a DC30 Deception Ability Checkto convince them not to attack you. Otherwise, you’re in for a very difficult fight.
If you’re intent on eliminating all of your companions, it’s bestnot to use any food or drink at camp when you rest. This will limit how much they recover, making it much easier to take them down.
Make sure toheal yourself before using theBedroll, though.
If you survived the fight, thenext long rest will trigger the scenewhere you arerewarded with the Slayer Form.
You can replace your companions by speaking to Withers about hirelings.
How To Spare Them
You cansave your companion by waking them upand warning them. However, you will need topass several Wisdom Ability Checksto restrain your Dark Urge until morning comes.
Doing so will have your partner tie you up and watch over you to ensure you don’t hurt anyone. Then, you’lldiscuss how to proceedmoving forward.
This saves your relationship (and your party members) from certain doom, though you’ll miss out on the Slayer Form.
